The details of the Ph.D. program under various schools of studies including the vacancies, the ordinance, etc have been made available on the university’s website for the information of the public. We have received around 1541 applications for the Ph.D. programs under the various schools. The application forms were scrutinised with a view to assess the eligibility as well as availability of the research supervisors. The PET would be conducted in two sections. Paper I / Section I shall consist of 50 MCQ type questions and for 50 Marks (50 Minutes) and will be common to all the candidates. The Paper II / Section II will be for a duration of 150 minutes and shall consist of 50 questions of MCQ type carrying 3 marks each. With these considerations, the Section II of the PhD Entrance Test (PET) will be conducted for the following schools of studies in the disciplines (subject areas) mentioned in the parenthesis: 1. School of Humanities and Social Sciences: Two separate PET examinations for Section II, one each in the disciplines of Economics (for candidates specializing in Economics) and that of Marathi (for candidates specializing in Marathi), would be conducted. The syllabi for the PET would be as per that for SET/NET. The candidates specializing in disciplines other than Marathi and Economics who registered in School of Humanities and Social Sciences have been shifted to School of Continuing Education (for the field Distance Education Methodology for Skill Development) due to non-availability of Guides at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. 2. School of Commerce and Management One PET examination for Section II in Commerce and Management would be conducted for the candidates of all subjects under Commerce and Management. The syllabus for the PET would be as per that of NET/SET. 3. School of Computer Science and School of Science and Technology One PET for Section II in the field of Application of Computer Science in Distance Education would be conducted (The syllabus for the PET would be as per that of NET/SET.) This examination can be taken by candidates with specialization in Computer Science/Engg., Textile Engg, Physics, Electronics and Mathematics. The candidates with specializations in Electronics, Mathematics and Textile Engg. Will have an option to choose between PET in the field of Application of Computer Science in Distance Education and that of Distance Education Methodology for Skill Development under School of Continuing Education. 4. School of Agriculture Sciences One PET in the field of Agriculture Extension would be conducted with the syllabi as per mentioned in the Prospectus 2015. 5. School of Education One PET in the field of Education would be conducted with syllabus that for the SET/NET. The candidates specializing in disciplines other than Education who registered in Education have been shifted to School of Continuing Education (for the field Distance Education Methodology for Skill Development) due to non-availability of Guides at the School of Education. 6. School of Continuing Education Two separate PET examinations: one in the field of Distance Education Methodology for Skill Development, and another in the field of Environment Science would be conducted. The principle of inclusiveness has been incorporated by allowing the candidates to appear in the PET for almost all areas of domain knowledge. The candidates specialising in areas other than Marathi, Economics, Commerce, Management, Agriculture, Computer Science and Education have been given scope to enrol in the Ph.D. program in either Environment Science (for candidates with specialisation in any of the disciplines, namely, Micro-biology, botany, zoology, chemistry, geology, bio-technology, earth sciences and life sciences) or in Distance Education Methodology for Skill Development (for candidates with specialisation in any of the disciplines, namely, maths, English, Sanskrit, journalism, Hindi, law, public administration, psychology, physical education, political science, history, social science, mass communication, sociology, Library Science, textile engg.). The PET for these types of candidates will have syllabi which would cover all the areas of specialisations mentioned above. The persons with knowledge and skills in more than one areas of specialisation would, thus, stand to gain in the test. The syllabi for the Section II for PET in Distance Education Methodology for Skill Development would cover the following topics 1. General principles of Open and distance methodology (2 Qs; 6 marks) 2. Application of domain knowledge of the following areas in skill inculcation and distance education: (maths, English, Sanskrit, journalism, Hindi, law, public administration, psychology, physical education, political science, history, social science, mass communication, sociology, Library Science, textile engg.) (3 Qs each discipline. i.e., 16x3 = 48 Qs, 144 marks), Total 150 Marks The syllabus for the section II for Environment Science would be as per the syllabi for the NET/SET. You are provisionally allowed to appear for Ph.D. Entrance Test. The eligibility will be further checked by a committee as per the ordinances. Ten (10) candidates will be called before the interview panel for each of the vacancy as per the reservation policy of the Government of Maharashtra. Wish you all the best for your test.
