Course Description:
120 Agriculture in Today’s Society. (1) General orientation to modern agriculture. A
study of career opportunities in industry, business, production agriculture, teaching,
resource management, and environment control. 1 hr. lect.
Course Objectives:
At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify opportunities in the Agriculture Industry
2. Identify opportunities in the School of Agriculture
3. Utilize university services and opportunities
4. Evaluate career opportunities in Agriculture
5. Get to know faculty, staff, and fellow students
Expectations of Students
Participation and Attendance: Attendance is a must!! Students must be prepared to
interact and discuss topics relating to course assignments. Absenteeism will impede
your success on assessments and course assignments.
Personal Habits: Your enrollment and attendance in this course automatically subjects
you to course policies that have been established. Additional policies may be
developed if needed, and are based on common sense and University Policies as set
forth by the University Provost.
Some personal habits are distracting to others in the classroom and are disallowed.
They include but may not be limited to: holding conversations with others during
lecture, text messaging, making or receiving phone calls, using personal electronic
devices for gaming, etc. Please respect those around you and limit these practices to
personal time.

Academic Integrity Policy: Any violation of the Student Academic Integrity Policy

course. You are expected to do your own work. Copying information from another on
exams or assignments (or allowing someone else to copy your work), bringing
unauthorized materials into a quiz/examination, writing information on table tops, or
representing the work of another as your own (plagiarism) are all acts of academic
dishonesty. If you are in doubt as to whether an action is academically honest, please
see me in advance. Failure to understand that an action is academically dishonest is
not an acceptable excuse.

Attention Education Majors: The changes within the state certification requirements,
which go into effect immediately for all of those students who graduate in the spring
2012 and after, you are required to receive a grade of a "C" or better in this course in
order to meet these new requirements. With the new university +/- grading system,
receiving a "C-" or below will require you to retake this course to meet School of
Agriculture graduation requirements.

90 – 91 = A87 – 89 = B+
83 – 86 = B
80 – 82 = B77 – 79 = C+
73 – 76 = C
70 – 72 = C67 – 69 = D+
63 – 66 = D
60 – 62 = D59 and below = F

What If I Need Help? If you find you are struggling, please see me as soon as
possible. WIU has many resources to help you succeed, and I will also do what I can to
help you learn the material. If you will be absent from class due to participation in
athletics or other college extracurricular activities, please alert me to this early in the
semester. Feel free to stop by my office, or see me outside of class whenever you have
questions. Remember, the sooner you see me with any problems you are having, the
sooner we can work together to help you master the material.
