COLLOQUIUM
Introduction to the Mathematics of
Computer Graphics
Thursday, March
20, 2014
3:45 p.m.
204 Morgan Hall
Professor Nathan Carter
Bentley University
Abstract: I have taught a mathematics of computer graphics
course to liberal arts students many times, and am finishing
a textbook on the topic for that audience.
It contains
interesting applications of linear algebra, vector operations,
and polynomial vector functions, such as paths of animation
in space and models of light and color.
This talk is a tour
through all topics covered in the course, but at a speed
appropriate
for
a
faculty
audience.
Come
see
new
applications of mathematics you know well, as well as some
mathematics you may never have seen before. For example,
you will learn the mathematics underlying the software that
studios such as Pixar use to render lifelike images of
imaginary environments.
This talk will be very visual, and
include samples of student work.
Department of
Mathematics
Refreshments will be
served at 3:30 p.m.
