Constitution Day: A Panel Presentation on the Affordable Care Act Social Science Speaker Series Jeff Sweat Associate Professor Sociology What do we need to know about health care? What does the Affordable Care Act (sometimes referred to as “Obamacare”) do? What does it have do with the Constitution? What problems may exist for its enactment? What is the source of opposition to it? For this panel discussion, we have invited four experts on different aspects to health care in the United States. We will be reviewing the components of the act, the Supreme Court decision about the constitutionality of the act, the specific provisions focusing on women’s health within it and sources of opposition to those, and the role of government and the challenges in using free markets to address health care.
