The Post War on Terror? After Afghanistan and Iraq Social Science Speaker Series Jose Vasquez Executive Director, Iraq Veterans Against the War Doctoral Candidate Cultural Anthropology CUNY, The Graduate Center What does a “post war on terror” look like? For this panel discussion, we have invited three experts on the role of the military in U.S. society and daily life. They will each examine a different aspect of how military policies and practices affect veterans and everyday citizens (U.S. and otherwise), and how this is shifting (and will likely continue to shift) upon the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to critically evaluating the idea of a “post war on terror,” themes of justice, order, security, and liberty will be unpacked and examined. Given the importance such themes play in all our lives, open public discussion after the presentations will be encouraged. We hope this public dialogue inspires reflective action for those who attend, including efforts to expand the conversation in the community after the panel.
