Who we are and what we do:
Computer Services Division
The mission of the Computer Services Division (CSD) is to provide students, faculty and staff with the
computing, networking and voice communications tools necessary to support the academic and
administrative missions of the university. The University of South Carolina Aiken and the Computer
Services Division are committed to providing a reliable, state-of-the-art campus computing
environment.
USCA’s primary student computing lab is located in the Business and Education Building (B&E) Suite
238. The suite contains an open Windows and Macintosh computer lab (238A), a dedicated
Macintosh classroom (238F) and a dedicated Windows classroom (238E). To assist you with your
computing needs, the B&E Suite is also home to the USCA Help Desk, which is staffed by three fulltime CSD employees and a number of student workers.
An additional Windows computer lab is located in Science Building Room 100. Although a few classes
are regularly scheduled there, the lab is usually available. Students have access to these facilities and
most computing resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students can use our card entry system to
gain access afterhours to the B&E 238 Computer Suite. A valid student ID is required to gain access.
Access can also be gained by calling Public Safety, X6111.
The majority of academic computing is supported in the Windows 7 (upgrading to Windows 10 this
summer) and Macintosh OS X environments. CSD offers training to faculty and staff in a variety of
commonly used operating systems and applications.
Network services are provided through USCA's state-of-the-art Cisco network, which provides up-to 1
GB connections to the desktop, gigabit connectivity between buildings, access to the entire University
of South Carolina network and access to the Internet. The student housing complex is also wired for
internet access. In addition, the campus has wireless network access for mobile devices and laptops.
CSD manages a variety of servers providing the campus community with email, network printing, file
sharing, network applications and other vital systems.
