Are Lines Parallel???
Write the Equations in SlopeIntercept Form
If the slopes are the same, they are parallel
If the slopes are different, they are not parallel
y = 2x + 4
3x + 4y = 12

Perpendicular Lines
Perpendicular lines touch at a 90 degree (right) angle.
Their slopes are reciprocals.
y = 4x + 2
y = 1/4x  1

Writing Equations for Perpendicular Lines
Write the equation of a line that is perpendicular to y = 5x + 3 and goes through the point (0, 2)
Find the Negative Reciprocal of the Slope.
Substitute the new slope and point into the equation and solve.
