Complete applications

Student who follow this program of study will have completed all of the prerequisite courses for the 3 most common Pharmacy Schools our students attend; USC, Presbyterian College, and South University.

Most students apply to all 3 schools. Please refer to the checklist for school specific requirements.

1– CHEM 111 requires completion of, placement beyond, or co-registration with MATH 111. BIOL 243 requires completion of or placement beyond MATH 108. BIOL 244 requires completion of BIOL 243. PHYS 201 requires completion of or placement beyond MATH 112 or 122. PHYS 211 requires completion of MATH 141.

2– The biology courses (BIOL 121, 122, 243, and 244) are frequently take during summer sessions to avoid taking 3 lab courses in the same semester. Students who obtain their pre-pharmacy requirements at USC Aiken will have earned four credit hours for the lab components of physics and anatomy/physiology courses beyond the minimum requested by the College of Pharmacy. (These are not elective credit hours.)

2– Pharmacy School programs require completion of at least one semester of Calculus (MATH 122/141 at USCA).

MATH 122 requires completion of or placement beyond MATH 111. MATH 141 requires completion of or placement beyond MATH 111 and MATH 112. The first math course students place into will depend on their prior math background and is usually determined by a math placement test or completion of previous college math courses. Some students will

Both the number of credit hours and the amount of science and math courses taken together makes this plan of study very demanding for a college freshman. Only students with a strong academic background, excellent time management, and strong study skills will be able to handle this type of schedule while maintaining their GPA and preparing for the PCAT at a level that will qualify them to apply for Pharmacy School. In addition, students who follow this plan but are not accepted to Pharmacy School after their 2nd year will likely require 3 additional years to complete a degree due to course sequencing and pre-requisites.

Many students now plan at the beginning of their careers at USC Aiken to complete the Pre-Pharmacy curriculum in three years in parallel with courses taken for a major allowing them to complete a degree at the end of 4 years.

Some students opt to complete a bachelor’s degree at USC Aiken before proceeding to a pharmacy school.

Foreign language proficiency is not required at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy. However, those who will graduate from USC Aiken are required to take two language courses, usually chosen from Spanish, French, or German. Other pharmacy schools may require some foreign language proficiency. Please check the requirements at those other pharmacy schools.
