This is a continuation of the writing program and skills learned in
previous grades.
Writing skills to include:
 Narrative, expository, descriptive, and persuasive writing
including reports, summaries, letters, research essays,
essays to explain a process, stories, and poems
 Synthesize material from several sources, prepare a
bibliography
Sayings and Phrases
Grammar
Skills






to include:
Subject/predicate; complete sentence
Identify fragment and run-on sentences
Subject/verb; identification and agreement
Identify/use 8 parts of speech
Direct/indirect objects
Colon before a list and commas with appositive (in addition
to punctuation skills learned in previous grades)
 Punctuation for books, movies, plays, magazines, stories,
etc.
Spelling/Vocab.
Words to include:
 Treasures Spelling lists
 Sitton High Frequency Words list
 Curriculum Words
 Prefixes/suffixes (as described in CK sequence)
