Blackboard Collaborate - Web Tours
Blackboard Collaborate enables a moderator to give a tour of a web page to participants.
On the Collaboration tool bar, select the Web Tour button.
Note: Anyone with moderator privileges can do a web tour.
Once you have entered the Web Tour Feature, you will
need to enter a URL in the Address text box located
underneath the Collaboration tool bar. Hit “Return” or
“Enter” on your keyboard to start the web tour.
By default, the “Follow Me” option is selected. With this option selected,
attendees will be able to browse the web page until you move to a new page.
As you move to a new page, Attendees will be redirected to the page you
are on.
If you choose to deselect this option, attendees will be able to freely browse the web page and will
not follow you to the pages you select.
While in the Web Tour, you can navigate through
previously viewed pages by using the arrows in
navigation bar.
If you choose the “Options Menu” from the navigation bar, you have two options
“Publish URL to Chat” which will publish the web page’s URL to the chat dialog
box.
“Open URL in Browser” which will open the web page in a separate internet
browser.
Note: “Open URL in Browser” is not recommended.

If you want a student to lead a web tour, you will need to grant them permission under their individual
permissions by choosing the “Web Tour” icon so there is no red “X” on the icon. You may also give
them moderator privileges.
Note: If asking a student to lead a web tour, the student should provide the URL ahead of time for
the instructor to approve the content of the website.
If a student is leading a Web Tour, it will be indicated on
their individual permission indicator bar with a blue version
of the web tour icon.
To Stop the Web Tour, switch to Whiteboard Mode on the Collaboration
Tool Bar.
Other Things To Consider
• During a Web Tour, participants cannot see any information you type in a search engine, text
box, or other input boxes.
