addition to test administration, this program provides test registration and information and referrals for preparation.

The mission of the Center for Urban Education (UNI-CUE) is to
provide a positive environment for lifetime learning. Individuals
of all ages can pursue and continue their educational goals
and prepare for careers.
The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) provides
counseling and information on college admissions to
communities with large populations of low-income, first
generation adults who want to enter or continue a program of
postsecondary education.
Educational opportunity for minority and non-traditional
students remains a high priority. UNI-CUE continues its
longstanding tradition of recruiting, motivating, and
encouraging students to pursue their career goals and
aspirations. The following programs are provided at the UNICUE, which is conveniently located at 800 Sycamore Street,
Waterloo, Iowa:
Professional and career counselors assist eligible participants
with selecting a post-secondary institution or training program
suited to their interests. Counselors assist clients with the
completion of admissions and financial aid applications,
conduct scholarship searches, the transfer process, defaulted
student loans, as well as provide academic counseling. The
program also provides services to improve the financial and
economic literacy to participants.
Continuing Education Courses: UNI-CUE fully embraces the
concept of continuing and part-time education. Evening
degree classes for college credit are offered from 4:00-8:30
p.m. every Monday through Thursday during the fall and spring
semesters. Courses continue to be expanded and offered
during a time that is most convenient for non-traditional
students.
UNI-CUE Tutoring Center: The UNI-CUE provides free tutoring
services to Black Hawk County students in grades 1-12.
Tutoring is done at the UNI-CUE, located at 800 Sycamore
Street, in downtown Waterloo. The UNI-CUE Tutoring Center
is specifically designed to provide skill development over the
course of several weeks to a semester. Tutors work one-onone with students at all skill levels in reading, English,
composition, social sciences, math, and other skills as
requested.
Opportunities for Volunteerism: Many UNI students volunteer
as tutors in the UNI-CUE Tutoring Center. During the fall and
spring semesters, UNI students work one-on-one with K-12
students from Black Hawk County. Students can tutor at the
age/grade level and in the subjects which they feel most
competent to tutor.
TRiO Programs: The UNI-CUE facility supports and houses
three federal TRiO programs: 1) the Educational Opportunity
Center; 2) the Educational Talent Search Program; and 3) the
Classic Upward Bound Program. Descriptions of these
programs can be found under their individual headings.
The goal of the EOC program is to increase the number of
adult participants who enroll in postsecondary education
institutions. EOC services are free to eligible participants who
are age 19 or older and do not have a four-year degree.
Participants must live in Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan,
Butler, Chickasaw or Tama counties.

The Educational Talent Search Program (ETS) helps students
prepare for and acquire a college education. All students who
attend one of the Waterloo Community School District’s public
middle or high schools (Bunger, Central, Hoover, Logan, East,
Expo, or West), high school graduates not currently taking
college courses, and high school dropouts living in Black Hawk
County are eligible to apply.
Services offered through the ETS program include: study skills
workshops; completion of admissions applications and waiver
of application fees; ACT/SAT registration and workshops;
ACT/SAT registration fee waivers; assistance with applying for
financial aid; college tours; career interest surveys; career
exploration/job shadowing; GED information; tutoring;
assistance for high school/college dropouts with re-enrollment

During the summer, CUB students spend six weeks living on
UNI campus while attending enrichment courses in
mathematics (algebra, pre-calculus), English (literature and
composition), science (biology, physics), foreign language
(Spanish, French), economics, and computer science.
Students also participate in cultural enrichment activities.

IOWA MATH & SCIENCE ACADEMY (IMSA) 433-1260
The Iowa Math & Science Academy (IMSA) is a program
designed to strengthen and support Iowa high school students’
interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
(STEM). The program is funded to serve a total of 40 students
from Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, and Grundy
counties. Program participants must be either low-income or
potential first-generation college students. Program services
generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to
succeed in completing high school and enrolling into and
graduating from a postsecondary institution.
During the academic year, participants are required to meet
monthly with the Project Director. An Individual Education Plan
is developed for all participants based on their scores on the
Iowa Test of Basic Skills and/or Iowa Test of Educational
Development, and academic progress in their current high
school courses. Students choose to complete either an
individual research project or 40 hours of volunteer experiences
in a STEM-related business or organization.
During the summer residential component of the program,
students experience college life while still in high school.
Participants live on the UNI campus for six weeks (excluding
weekends) while enrolled in summer courses taught by UNI
faculty. In addition to course work, students experience daily
recreational and enrichment activities. Students are eligible to
receive college credit after successful completion of three
summers in the IMSA program.

PAYMENT METHODS
Payment of health fee provides students the following services:
• Provider office visits for illness and injury
• Counselors visits at no added fee
• Public health activities to keep campus healthy
• Health promotion activities.
Students acquire charges for lab, immunizations, medications, treatment, physicals and procedures. The UNI Student
Health Clinic will file an insurance claim for services not covered by the Health Fee. We are participating providers with
many insurance companies. If you have insurance related questions contact the insurance customer services number.
Any applicable co-pay and/or deductible will be placed on the students UNI E-bill. Students are not required to have
health insurance to be seen at the UNI Student Health Clinic.
UNI offers health and dental insurance coverage to students through the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), a group
policy administered by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa, Delta Dental of Iowa, for a brochure contact 319273-7736 or ship@uni.edu.
