Radiance-2013 at iit bombay
(On 10th March 2013)

As per instruction and permission granted from the honorable Principal of VPCOE
Baramati; Dr. S. B. Deosarkar, department of mechanical engineering had organized
one day visit at IIT Bombay to attend ‘RADIANCE-2013’. Around 14 students (6-SE,
5-TE, 3-BE) including two staff members visited to IIT Bombay on 10th March 2013.
‘RADIANCE’ is one of the famous technical event organized by mechanical
engineering departments of IIT Bombay every year.
Students had left the college for visit on 10th March at 4.10 am and reached to IIT
campus at 9:15 am. Between 9:30 to 10:30 am students attended Lecture on
'UNLEARN TO INNOVATE' by eminent Speaker Mr. Kranthi K. Vistakula, an
alumnus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA Founder and CEO of
the technology venture Dhama Innovations Pvt. Ltd. During lecture students interacted
with expert in the Live Classroom.

10:30 to 11 students have seen various poster and project exhibition, students
participated from various institute presented their research project, here some people
from different companies came to introduce their new product. It was very nice
experience to all students to observe and participate in different event RADIANCE2013.
11 am to 12 pm we attended ‘Industry Defined Problem’ (IDP) program, this was
completely new concept for our students. In this IDP live industry problem is defined
and participant were giving optimum solutions to that problem through presentation
followed by question answer with judge.
12 pm to 1 pm we observed ‘ROBO SUMO’, in this event participants prepared their
robot with given constrained specification and there match is fought between two
teams. During this event our students took guidance from one of the participating team
about how to prepare wireless robot.
After lunch, we visited to cryogenics laboratory with oral permission of lab In-charge
there; Mr. Ganesh, Ph.D student at IIT, he explained Liquid Nitrogen Cooling Plant.

Next event started at 3 pm, 3 pm to 5:30 pm our students participated in ‘ANGRY
NERDS’, On-the-spot competition. This was hands-on events which contain problems
involving application of basic principles of science. This was team events
comprising of a maximum of three participants per team. These involve
creating
simple
prototypes
according
to
the
given
problem
statement,
with the help of common everyday materials such as ice cream sticks,
straws,
fevicol
etc.

was
announced
on
the
spot and the required material was provided to all the teams.

Large number of students was participated from various institutes. One of the team
from our college got first prize in this competition. Students were interacted with
organizing committee of RADIANCE-2013.

We started back to VPCOE, Baramati at 6 pm from IIT Bombay and reached to
VPCOE campus about 12.15 am in night. This visit was very useful and successful, all
enjoyed this tour.

Students Feedback
Visit to ‘RADIANCE 2013’ at IIT Bombay organized by our college was very nice
and useful to us. The guiding staff and coordinator of ‘RADIANCE 2013’ were very
supportive to all students. It was very nice experience to all students to observe and
participate in different event RADIANCE-2013.
We hope that this visit will help us in our future practical life and bring a positive
change in our thinking and implementing idea while organizing such event at our
college campus. We also request our college to organize such type of visit in future
also to enhance and explore student’s technical skill.
We, the Students of Mechanical Engineering are extremely thankful to Honorable
Principal of VPCOE, Baramati, Dr. S.B. Deosarkar, Head of Mechanical Engineering
Department Prof. P. R. Chitragar, and staff coordinators of of this visit Prof. K.M.
