Course Objectives:
Students will become familiar with treating such contemporary design and development issues as
identifying customer needs, design for manufacturing, prototyping, and industrial design, This
course presents in a clear and detailed way a set of product development techniques aimed at
bringing together the marketing, design, and manufacturing functions of the enterprise. The
integrative methods in the course facilitate problem solving and decision making among people
with different disciplinary perspectives, reflecting the current industry toward designing and
developing products in cross-functional teams.

At the completion of this course, students should be able to:

2. Understand Opportunity Identification and Product Planning
3. Describe Concept Generation, Concept Selection and Concept Testing
4. Explain Design for Environment and Design for Manufacturing
5. Describe the Prototyping Process and factors involved with Robust Design.
6. Understand the Patent process and Intellectual Property concepts.
