ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Muskegon Community College encourages International Students to apply for admission for the
Fall semester. The school year is divided into two 15 week semesters and one twelve week semester.
The Fall semester runs from August or early September through the middle of December. The Winter
semester starts in early January until late April. Summer semester starts in early May and ends in early
August. The student body is approximately four thousand students. Students attend classes both during
the day and evening and most are from the surrounding community.
Muskegon has a population of nearly 60,000 people. Major urban areas of Detroit and Chicago
are only about four hours away by auto. Major universities such as University of Michigan and Michigan
State are within a few hours’ drive by auto. These institutions have International Student enrollments of
over a thousand with students from nearly every area of the world.
Muskegon has a wide range in temperature. During the Summer, the temperatures will range
from 70 to 100 degrees F. During the Winter, there is much snow and the temperatures will range from
minus 0 to 30 degrees F. The student is advised to bring clothing for both extremes.
Muskegon Community College does not have dormitories. Local motels can be used as temporary
housing until less expensive suitable housing can be found. The International Enrollment Office
maintains a list of several local apartment complexes
