Charleston CUSD #1 Guidelines for Approval of Professional Development Clock Hours As a State-approved professional development provider, the Charleston CUSD #1 considers approval of Professional Development (PD) Clock Hour credit in increments of at least one-quarter hour. To request approval of activities provided by the district, complete the two steps below within 30 days of the end of the activity. 1. Review the Illinois State Board of Education’s Guidelines for License Renewal Continuing Professional Development Activities (December, 2014). If the activity meets the guidelines, then 2. Submit a completed Evidence of Completion for Professional Development form to the Assistant Superintendent’s office. Clarifications According to Katie O’Dell (ROE #11 Professional Development & Transportation Coordinator), Dennis Williams (ISBE Division Supervisor of the Licensure Division) has indicated that Global Compliance Network (GCN) tutorials and other mandatory trainings (ADHD, AIDS/HIV Awareness, Anaphylaxis and Anaphylactic Shock, Blood borne Pathogens, Bullying, Cyberbullying, Child Abuse, Diabetes I and II, Domestic and Sexual Violence, mental illness, PsychoTropic/Stimulant Mediations, Sexual Harassment, Suicide Prevention, and Teen Dating) could not count toward licensure renewal and, therefore, the district could not approve of these activities for PD clock hours (email, September, 2015). “A licensee may not receive credit for any professional development activity that is designed for entertainment, promotional or commercial purposes; that is solely inspirational or motivational; or that addresses purposes other than those listed above, and the State Board may disapprove any activity found to be of this nature” (ISBE guidance document, December, 2014).
