Beste medestudenten,
Mijn naam is Bo Backbier, tweeëntwintig jaar en derdejaars bachelor student Nederlands recht. Ik
ben actief binnen mijn studievereniging Magister JFT en zet me als lid van de Opleidingscommissie
van Vrijspraak al twee jaar in voor de kwaliteit van het onderwijs van TLS. Ik heb enorm veel plezier
in het behartigen van de studentbelangen van mijn medestudenten van TLS, maar graag wil ik de
medezeggenschap naar een hoger niveau tillen.
Om dit hogere niveau te bereiken, zal ik – hoe ironisch dat ook moge klinken – mijn zetel afstaan, en
mijn betrokkenheid bij Fractie Front voortzetten als voorzitter van Medezeggenschapsvereniging Front.
Deze medezeggenschapsvereniging draagt de visie van haar Fractie Front uit en zet zich in voor een
toegankelijkere plek voor de studenten van TiU om zijn mening te uiten omtrent het onderwijs. Als
voorzitter wil ik de brug gaan vormen tussen de universiteitsraad en de student van TiU. Door gedurende
het hele jaar intensief contact te houden met studenten via bijeenkomsten en vergaderingen waar
deze studenten hun meningen, suggesties en opmerkingen kunnen delen, streef ik naar een optimale
belangenbehartiging van de student. De gegeven input breng ik naar Fractie Front en zo dus naar de
tafel van de universiteitsraad, waarna er op basis hiervan beleid kan worden gevoerd.
Mijn uitgangspunten als voorzitter van Medezeggenschapsvereniging Front zijn gelijk aan die van
Fractie Front. Het is van groot belang studenten de ruimte te geven eigen keuzes te maken, zich als
persoon te ontwikkelen en zo hun passie te vinden. Dit vraagt om heldere communicatie tussen TiU
en de student, zodat er optimaal gebruik kan worden gemaakt van de geboden faciliteiten door de
universiteit. Als er mooie regelingen worden gemaakt, maar studenten hebben hier geen weet van, dan
slaan we samen een beetje de plank mis. Strakke, korte lijnen en duidelijke kennisgeving is dus cruciaal
voor een degelijke ontplooiing binnen je studiecarrière. Ook moeten we met de tijd mee blijven gaan:
om de internationalisering kunnen we niet meer heen, en dat moeten we ook niet willen. Gedegen
implementatie van internationalisering in het onderwijs aan TiU is voor de student enorm waardevol.
Het geeft kansen en brengt je verder.
Dat verder brengen van de studenten van Tiu, dat is mijn streven als voorzitter van
Medezeggenschapsvereniging Front. Samen met Fractie Front zal ik me voor de volle 100% in gaan
zetten om de gedeelde visie en uitgangspunten te verwezenlijken. De bepalende factor ben jij. Worden

Dear fellow students,
My name is Bo Backbier, twenty-two years old and I am a third-years bachelors student Dutch
Law. I’m an active member of study association Magister JFT and I have been part of the program
committee of Vrijspraak for two years now, where we try to improve the quality of the education
at the Tilburg Law School. Although I enjoy promoting the interests of my fellow TLS students, I
would like to raise the student participation to a higher level.
To reach this higher level, I will – how ironic this may sound – relinquish my seat in the university
council when I may get one. I will proceed my engagement with Student Party Front by being
the chairman of the newly launched Student Participation Association Front. This association
will carry out the vision of Student Party Front and will make sure there is an accessible place for
Tilburg University Students to express their opinions about the education. As the chairman, I will
form the bridge between the university council and the Tilburg University Student. By keeping
in touch with students during the whole year through, I strive for the optimal representation
of students’ interests. The contact can be done in several ways, such as meetings and informal
gatherings where students can share their opinions, suggestions and remarks. I will take the
collected input back to Student Party Front and therefore to the table of the University Council.
My standpoints as the chairman of Student Participation Association Front are equal to those
of Student Party Front. It is of great importance to give students the space to make choices and
develop themselves in order to find their passion. This asks for clear communication between
Tilburg University and her students, as this enables optimal use of the offered facilities by the
university. Offering useful facilities without stating their existence is of no benefit for anyone.
Clear communication and evident announcements are key. Furthermore, we all must keep
abreast of the times: internationalization cannot and should not be ignored. Implementing
internationalization in a solid way offers possibilities and allows students to move forward.
Moving forward is my ideal as the chairman of Student Participation Association Front. Together
with Student Party Front I will devote myself to achieve our shared vision and standpoints. You
are the determining factor. Why choose steps if you can take leaps forward? ‘Going the Extra

Beste medestudenten,
Laat ik maar meteen schuld bekennen. Toen mij een paar jaar geleden de vraag “Zou je
op Front willen stemmen?” gesteld werd, wist ik ook even niet waar te zoeken. Front?
Stemmen? Nadat ik – na het voeren van een goed gesprek – mijn stem had gegeven, ben ik
me steeds meer gaan verdiepen in de medezeggenschap en begon ik verbeteringen te zien.
Precies dat besef – dat je stem het écht waard is – wil ik nu ook overdragen aan anderen.
Daarom zeg ik nu: stem Front!
De goede wegen worden bewandeld, maar we zijn er nog niet. Op het gebied van
communicatie valt nog steeds veel te winnen en voor die schakel wil ik gaan zorgen.
Daarnaast is er vorig jaar aandacht geschonken aan het ‘campusgevoel’, waar ik het
komende jaar op door wil pakken. Als ik terugkijk op de afgelopen studiejaren, dan vind ik
dat je één ding niet moet onderschatten; het belang van jezelf ‘thuis voelen’. Naast het feit
dat je naar de universiteit komt om te studeren, moet het ook een plek zijn voor ontmoeting
en sociale contacten; dan volgen die resultaten vanzelf.
Om deze visie uit te kunnen dragen, hoop ik op jullie stem. Mijn naam is Frank van Leeuwen,
ik ben 20 jaar oud en zit in het derde jaar van mijn studie Bestuurskunde. Ik ben afkomstig
uit het Brabantse plaatsje Budel, maar woon sinds twee jaar hier in het mooie Tilburg. Van
de bekende ‘Brabantse gezelligheid’ geniet ik dus volop! Ik ben naast mijn studie actief bij
vele verenigingen op het gebied van sport, jongerenwerk en carnaval, en ben daarnaast
graag te vinden bij Magister JFT. Al vanaf het begin van mijn studie zet ik me met veel
plezier in voor Magister JFT | Juribes en sinds afgelopen jaar ben ik ook actief voor de
medezeggenschapsfractie Vrijspraak.
Ik heb onwijs veel zin om me in te gaan zetten voor medezeggenschap die gebaseerd is op
heldere communicatie, binnen een universiteit waar het ‘campusgevoel’ heerst. Daarvoor

Dear fellow students,
I need to start with a confession. When someone asked me “would you please vote for
Front?” a few years ago, I too didn’t know what to say. Vote? Front? After a short, clear
discussion, I decided to vote for Front. Because of this moment, I started to pay more
attention to student representation and guess what: I saw more and more improvements.
After that, I realized that every single vote counts. I want to carry out this feeling to
everybody, and that’s the reason why I say: Vote Front!
We are following the proper ways, but we’re still not there. Communication between the
university and the students is a long way from the level it should be. Students should know
what to expect and how to anticipate. Transparency might be the most important aspect
of representation, and I promise to pay much attention on this point. Another concept that
gets my attention is ‘Living Campus’. When I look back to my study years, I think there’s
one special thing you need to realize; the importance of ‘feeling home’. Of course Tilburg
University is a place for studying, but it also has to be a meeting point for students in order
to strengthen social contacts.
To carry out my vision, I’m counting on your votes! My name is Frank van Leeuwen, I am 20
years old and I’m a third year Public Administration student. I’m coming from Budel, a small
town in southeast of Brabant, but I live here in Tilburg for already two years. Besides my
study, I’m very active as a member of many associations in sport, youth work and carnival.
You could also know me as an active member of study association Magister JFT. From the
start of my study, I’ve participated in several committees of Magister JFT | Juribes and since
last year also in the student party Vrijspraak.

Beste studenten,
Naast mijn studie organisatiewetenschappen zet ik mij, sinds het begin van mijn studie,
in voor verschillende commissies. Dit heb ik gedaan bij T.S.V. Plato, maar ook bij Integrand
Tilburg. Hier kwam ik erachter dat alleen studeren en hoge cijfers niet langer genoeg zijn
om aan een baan te komen, je moet jezelf onderscheiden, opvallen. Nou val je met een
naam als Elbrich vrijwel altijd op, maar een aparte naam alleen is niet voldoende om je te
onderscheiden van alle andere studenten. Een bestuursjaar, exchange, stage, outreaching
program, vrijwilligerswerk en commissies zijn daarentegen allemaal manieren om jezelf te
onderscheiden van de grote massa. Het bedrijfsleven verlangt veel van ons, maar door het
huidige studieklimaat wordt het ons knap lastig gemaakt om daadwerkelijk veel naast je
studie te doen. Naar mijn mening moet de universiteit meer ruimte bieden aan verdiepende
en verbredende activiteiten naast je studie. Zo zou het mogelijk moeten zijn om per vak te
betalen, zodat je jouw studententijd zelf in kunt richten!
Maar Fractie Front is meer dan alleen de actieve student, Fractie Front zet zich ook in voor
een betere communicatie tussen de universiteit en de studenten. Als student heb je het
recht om te weten waar je aan toe bent, meer openheid van zaken en duidelijkheid over
waar je met jouw vraag terecht kunt. Dit is echter nog niet het geval, er zal nog veel moeten
gebeuren voordat een optimale communicatie is bereikt. Ook daar gaat Fractie Front zich
komend jaar weer volop voor inzetten, om ervoor te zorgen dat jij weet waar je aan toe
bent!

Dear students,
Since I started studying in Tilburg I have been active in different committees at both T.S.V.
Plato as Integrand Tilburg. During my time at Integrand I came to realize that high grades
weren’t enough to get a job, you have to distinct yourself from the other student and stand
out. With a unusual name like Elbrich you almost always stand out, but just an unusual name
isn’t enough. A board year, exchange, internship, outreaching program, volunteering or
committees are, on the contrary, excellent ways to distinct yourself from the other students.
Corporate society wants us to stand out, but the current study climate makes it almost
impossible for us to engage in the activities that will make us stand out. I believe that the
university should provide us with the opportunity to work on our soft skills and personal
development. As a student you should be able to pay for the courses that you’re taking and
not just a set amount, as a student you should be able design your own college experience.
But Fractie Front isn’t just all about the active student, Fractie Front also stands for a better
communication between the university and its’ students. As a student you have the right
to know what to expected, more transparency and a better understanding of where to find
the answers to your questions is needed. A lot of work has to be done to reach the desired
situation. Also next year Fractie Front will improve the communication between the students
and the university to make sure you know what to expected.

Beste medestudent,
Het is tegenwoordig niet meer vanzelfsprekend dat er voor jou een baan op de arbeidsmarkt
te vinden is na het afronden van je studie. Jaarlijks studeren er namelijk vele studenten af
en daarom wordt het steeds belangrijker dat jíj jezelf onderscheidt. Door mijn positie binnen
Word Actief Tilburg, weet ik dat Tilburg voor iedereen iets te bieden heeft. Naast het actieve
verenigingsleven heeft ook de universiteit verschillende mogelijkheden, zoals een exchange of
stage. Ik vind het erg belangrijk dat studenten zoals jij de gelegenheid wordt geboden om deze
keuzes te kunnen maken zónder studievertraging op te lopen. Ik ga me komend jaar dan ook
hardmaken voor flexibiliteit binnen jouw opleiding, zodat die mogelijkheid er is.
Uiteraard is de krapte op de arbeidsmarkt niet de enige verandering van deze tijd. Ook
wordt het internationale karakter van onze universiteit steeds zichtbaarder, wat ook jou
waarschijnlijk niet is ontgaan. Op dit moment ben ik voorzitter van Study Association POLIS, de
studievereniging voor en door studenten Organisatiewetenschappen. Ook wij hebben er dit
jaar voor gekozen om onze vereniging toegankelijk te maken voor internationale studenten.
Ik vind het dan ook erg belangrijk dat er ingespeeld wordt op deze ontwikkeling en dat de
mogelijkheden voor ieder student duidelijk gecommuniceerd worden.
Wat ik zelf tevens van groot belang acht is de betrokkenheid van de student. Uiteindelijk
word ik, samen met de rest van de fractie, misschien wel degene die joú komend jaar gaat
vertegenwoordigen. Daarom ben ik een groot voorstander van de medezeggenschapsvereniging
van Fractie Front. Dit geeft studenten de mogelijkheid om meer betrokken te zijn bij de
medezeggenschap en inbreng te leveren waar mogelijk. Het creëert een laagdrempelig karakter,
waardoor we toegankelijker worden voor studenten. Als potentiële vertegenwoordiger van de
student vind ik het dan ook erg belangrijk dat er naar de student geluisterd wordt. Jouw inbreng
is belangrijk. Schroom dus niet om me te contacten voor jouw ideeën, vragen of opmerkingen!
Ik kijk er erg naar uit om met enorm veel passie ‘The Extra Mile’ te gaan. Ik ben bereid me

Dear fellow student,
Nowadays, you can’t assume that you will find a job after you graduate. Every year, there is
a considerable number of students that graduates, so it becomes more and more important
that you distinguish yourself. Due to my position within Word Actief Tilburg (translated:
become active Tilburg), I know that Tilburg has something to offer for every student. Next to
the wide range of associations, the university also has a lot of possibilities, like an exchange
or internship. I find it very important that students like you get the opportunity to make such
decisions without delaying your study. Next year, I will plead for flexibility during your study
program, so that those opportunities are made possible.
Of course, the situation on the labour market nowadays is not the only thing changing these
times. Also the international attitude of our university becomes more visible, something you
may have already noticed. Currently, I am the chairman of Study Association POLIS, the study
association for and by students Organization Studies. Ever since the beginning of this year,
we made our association also accessible for international students. I think it is important that
there is a clear focus on the development and possibilities for every student and that this is
clearly communicated.
Besides, something that I deem as important is the involvement of the students. Eventually
I will perhaps become, together with the other members of the Student Party, the one who
will present you in the university council. Because of this, I am a supporter of the student
participation association of Student Party Front. It creates an opportunity for students to
become more involved and to provide input if needed or desired. As a potential representative
of students, I think it is very important that the opinions of students are taken into account.

Beste medestudenten,
Ik ben Rutger Maas, 22 jaar en student bestuurskunde. Na het eerste jaar van mijn bachelor
nog vertrouwd op het ouderlijk nest gewoond te hebben, kon ik de verleiding van een
actiever studentenleven niet langer weerstaan. Daarom heb ik besloten om lid te worden van
studentenverenging T.S.C. St. Olof en ben ik actief geworden bij Vriendenclub Torpedo.
Door dit actieve studentenleven heb ik mogen ervaren dat je studententijd veel meer is dan
alleen boeken lezen, colleges bijwonen en vakken halen. Het is erg belangrijk dat studenten
zich kunnen ontwikkelen en ontplooien naast hun studie. Buiten het feit dat dit voor jezelf
veel betekent, zijn bedrijven ook steeds meer op zoek naar de ‘complete’ student, degene die
zich ook persoonlijk ontwikkeld heeft. Tilburg University moet hier studenten zo veel mogelijk
de ruimte en mogelijkheid toe bieden, wat ook aansluit bij de lijfspreuk van de universiteit
‘Understanding Society’.
Het is voor studenten belangrijk dat zij op exchange kunnen gaan, een stage kunnen volgen
of actief kunnen worden bij een vereniging. Zo zorg je als student ervoor dat je studententijd
de mooiste tijd van je leven wordt, maar ook de tijd waarin je wordt klaargestoomd voor de
arbeidsmarkt. Studeren is jezelf inzetten, jezelf ontwikkelen, jezelf ontplooien. Om dit mogelijk
te maken, zouden colleges niet verplicht moeten zijn en zou audio- of videomateriaal van de
colleges beschikbaar moeten zijn. Ik ben van mening dat intensivering van het onderwijs niet
mag leiden tot verschoolsing en dat de zelfstandigheid van de student gewaarborgd moet
blijven.
Veel recente ontwikkelingen maken de mogelijkheid tot zelfontplooiing voor studenten juist
lastiger. De universiteit wordt een leerfabriek met veel verplichtingen, zodat de universiteit
haar prestatieafspraken kan halen. Hoewel organisatorische aspecten van een universiteit erg
belangrijk zijn, moeten we niet vergeten waar het uiteindelijk om draait: onderwijs van hoge
kwaliteit en de ontwikkeling van de student.
Fractie Front vecht al jaren om dit uitgangspunt te waarborgen. Geen verplichte colleges, de
mogelijkheid om stages in te ruilen voor keuzevakken, het stimuleren en promoten van ‘soft
skills’ trainingen, studenten stimuleren om een actief studentenleven te leiden, dat is Front!
Studentenbelang boven financieel belang.

Dear Students,
Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Rutger Maas, 22 years old and a public administration
student. The first year of my bachelor I still lived in my hometown. After that year, I decided
that I wanted to lead an active and dynamic student life. So I joined the student association,
T.S.C. St. Olof, and I also joined a fraternity, Vriendenclub Torpedo.
Through all of these things I did besides my study, I learned that being a student isn’t only
about reading books, attending lectures and getting good grades. Being a student is also about
developing yourself and being able to flourish. In my opinion Tilburg University needs to give
students enough space, time and abilities to do that. This comes from the motto of Tilburg
University, ‘Understanding Society’.
It is important for students to have options such as experiencing an exchange, participating
in an internship, being part of and active in a student association, and to enroll in an honours
program. This way, your time as a student will not only be the best time of your life but also
a time in which you will grow. These skills you have acquired, not just academic skills, will
help you to get a job and be successful. For me, being a student is about making an effort,
developing yourself and flourishing. To be able to do so, lectures should not be mandatory
and every course should have video and/or audio material available. Education should be less
demanding so that students are able to remain independent and grow to the student they
want to be.
The recent developments have made it harder for students to develop themselves. Universities
tend to act like a study factory in that performance measures need to be achieved. Although
the organizational aspects of the University are very important, we should not lose sight of the
importance of the University’s core business, which includes high quality education and the
development of the student.
Student Party Front has been fighting for years to maintain this fundamental idea. No
mandatory courses, trading elective courses for internships, integrating ‘soft skills’ into the
curriculum, stimulating students to be active students, that is Front! The needs of the students
should exceed financial needs.

Ik ben Janne Wijdeven, 22 jaar en derdejaars studente filosofie. Ik ben erg geïnteresseerd in
bestuur en politiek, al verwacht men dit misschien niet snel van een filosofiestudente. Dankzij
mijn studie heb ik echter een aantal belangrijke vaardigheden ontwikkeld; zo ben ik analytisch,
kritisch en open-minded. Daarnaast ga ik graag uitdagingen aan en ben ik een echte doorzetter.
Ik heb al enige bestuur- en politieke ervaring dankzij een uiterst leerzame stage bij de Voedselen Agricultuur Organizatie van de Verenigde Naties. Daarnaast heb ik veel geleerd van mijn
deelname aan het(op leiderschap gerichte) Outreaching Honors Programma.
Actief zijn naast je studie vind ik erg belangrijk. Zo volg ik zelf dit jaar naast mijn studie het
beurzenprogramma van Stichting Thomas More, ben ik lid van de onderzoekscommissie van
Fractie Front, doe ik verschillende commissies bij Outreaching en ben ik actief lid van de
Tilburgse Studentenvereniging Plato en bij Damesdispuut DOT.
Ook ben ik erg betrokken bij de campus en de universiteit. Zo maakte ik vorig jaar deel uit
van een project om de campus duurzamer te maken en leid ik op dit moment het ‘Resource
Mobilization Team’, waarmee we in de publieke sector geld inzamelen om het Outreaching
Honors-programma van de universiteit mede te financieren.
Volgend jaar wil ik graag studenten stimuleren om actief te worden en zich persoonlijk
te ontwikkelen om zo de aansluiting op de arbeidsmarkt te verbeteren. Ook vind ik het
belangrijk om nieuwe studenten duidelijk te maken wat de mogelijkheden hierin zijn: van
honorsprogrammas, studie- of sportverenigingen tot medezeggenschap, alles kan!
Daarnaast streef ik ook naar meer duidelijkheid vanuit de universiteit, bijvoorbeeld bij feedback
van tentamens of bij Engelstalige communicatie in colleges.
Ik vind het erg belangrijk dat de universiteit luistert naar haar draagvlak, de studenten. Ik wil
dan ook actief op zoek gaan naar oplossingen van jullie problemen om zo de universiteit te
verbeteren. Het lijkt mij een uitdaging en een eer om jullie te mogen vertegenwoordigen en
jullie belangen te behartigen in de universiteitsraad.

My name is Janne Wijdeven, I am a 22-years old Philosophy student who would love to
represent you in the University Council. I am very interested in politics, even though this might
not sound logical coming from a philosophy student. But thanks to my study I developed some
important skills. For example, I am analytical, critical and open-minded. I really like challenges
and I persevere in my commitments.
I have relevant experience regarding politics due to a very interesting internship at the Food
and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Furthermore, I learned a lot from my
participation in the Outreaching Honors Program, which focusses on responsible leadership.
I am an ‘active’ student. I am following scholarship program at the Thomas More Foundation
this year. I am also a member of the research committee of Fractie Front. Besides, I participate
in various committees of Outreaching and I am an active member of Student Association Plato.
I am very involved with the campus and the university. Last year, I was part of a community
project that focused on sustainable campus events. This year, I am leading the Resource
Mobilization Team, which goal is to fund the Outreaching Program.
Next year, I want to stimulate students to develop themselves as much as possible next
to their studies, so they can better bridge the gap with the labor market. I also find it very
important to inform new students of all the possibilities: from honors programs, study- or
sport associations to student parties: everything is possible. Furthermore, I also endeavor to
improve the university’s clarity of communication. For example, students must receive clear
and enough feedback on their exams, and the (English) language skills of teachers should be of
good quality.
In my opinion, it is very important that the university listens to the students. I am planning to
actively look for solutions for your problems. Together, we can improve this university. It would
be a challenge and an honor to represent you in the University Council next year.

Al jaren is het een gegeven dat niet alleen je resultaten van groot belang zijn voor je carrière.
Iedere student is op zoek naar manieren om zichzelf te kunnen onderscheiden en met de
huidige ontwikkelingen worden de voor- en nadelen van nevenactiviteiten sterk afgewogen.
Fractie Front neemt hier een belangrijke plaats in; zij zorgt ervoor dat studenten zich met
zo min mogelijk beperkingen kunnen ontplooien. Ook zorgt Front ervoor dat opgedane
vaardigheden en ervaringen van betekenis zijn voor de ontwikkeling van hun omgeving en zo
veel mogelijk toegepast kunnen worden.
Laat ik mezelf even voorstellen: ik ben Djay Emmers, 20 lentes jong en derdejaarsstudent
Ondernemingsrecht. Als actief lid van T.S.R. Vidar heb ik in mijn studententijd sprongen kunnen
maken in mijn persoonlijke ontwikkeling. Die ervaring heeft mij geleerd dat een student zich
ook buiten een studie om moet kunnen ontwikkelen en onderscheiden.
De mogelijkheid om ervaringen en vaardigheden op te doen binnen het brede scala van
activiteiten buiten de studie om moet optimaal benut blijven. Het bieden van financiële vrijheid
waarin studenten kunnen bepalen met welke intensiteit zij actief willen zijn, vind ik van groot
belang. Collegegeldvrij besturen en collegegeld betalen per vak moet de flexibiliteit bieden die
studenten nodig hebben om zich naast de studie te kunnen ontwikkelen.
Studenten die buiten Tilburg om actief zijn, bezitten kennis en ervaringen die van grote waarde
zijn voor Tilburg University. Het ondersteunen van deze studenten en ze de mogelijkheid
bieden hun ervaringen te delen, kan veel opleveren voor de universiteit. Doordat deze
studenten in aanraking komen met andere curricula en culturen, biedt het mogelijkheden
voor de ontwikkeling van de universiteit en verbreding van het internationale karakter van de
universiteit.
Naar mijn mening is het voor studenten belangrijk dat ze een omgeving hebben waarin ze
optimaal kunnen presteren. Het aanbieden van videocolleges en andere audiovisuele middelen
zou hieraan bijdragen, net zoals eenduidige en duidelijke communicatie binnen de studie.
Voldoende diversiteit aan werkplekken en gelegenheden tot ontspanning op en rondom de
campus creëert een rustigere werksfeer en laat studenten zich tevens thuis voelen.

For several years it has been known that not only your grades have a great impact on your
career in later life. Every student is looking for opportunities to distinguish themselves and,
considering current developments, students’ choice to do extracurricular activities are being
considered against the advantages of these activities. Front takes in an important place; Front
provides the possibility for students to develop themselves with the least limitations. Front also
provides that the developments of students and the experiences they acquire can be used for
the development of their environment and can be used as much as possible.
Let me introduce myself to you: my name is Djay Emmers, I am 20 years old and thirdyear student Business Law. As an active member of the Student Rowing Association Vidar, I
have gotten the possibilities to make enormous progress in my personal development. This
experience taught me that it students should get the opportunity to develop and distinguish
themselves beside their studies.
The possibility to acquire experience and skills by using the broad range of extracurricular
activities should remain to be used to its full extent. Offering financial freedom for students
in order for them to be able to determine how intensively they want to be active beside
their studies, is of great importance to me. Doing a board year without the obligation to pay
tuition fees and paying tuition fees per course provides the flexibility students need to do
extracurricular activities.
Students who are active outside of Tilburg, possess knowledge and experiences which
are highly beneficial for Tilburg University. Supporting these students and providing the
opportunity to share their experiences, will provides the University much expertise. Due to
the fact that these student get in touch with different curricula and cultures, Tilburg University
could use their experiences to develop and broaden the international personality of the
University.
In my opinion, students should have an environment in which they can optimally perform.
Offering video lectures and other audiovisual contents, just like unambiguously and clear
communication over the entire study would contribute to this. Sufficient diversity of working
places and places to relax on and surrounding the campus would create a more peaceful
working environment and would allow students to feel at home.

Mijn naam is Naomi Coldenhoff, tweedejaars studente Psychologie.
Sinds ik in Tilburg ben gaan studeren, is er een wereld aan fantastische ervaringen voor
me open gegaan. In mijn eerste jaar ben ik lid geworden van verschillende verenigingen,
waaronder debatvereniging Cicero en studievereniging Complex. In mijn tweede jaar is
e-sports vereniging Link ook bij dat lijstje gekomen.
Door middel van toernooien, commissies en maatschappelijk werk kreeg ik de mogelijkheid
mijn horizon te verbreden, nieuwe mensen te ontmoeten, leuke dingen te organiseren en
bovenal iets bij te dragen aan de maatschappij. Dat is wat mij betreft het leukste aan Tilburg
University: het feit dat je zoveel mogelijkheden hebt om je horizon te verbreden en echt je
steentje bij te dragen.
Ik wil dat voor alle studenten mogelijk maken: een fantastische tijd waarin je ontzettend
veel kennis en ervaring op doet, die je later met veel plezier in kunt zetten voor de
samenleving.
Daarbij is het onder meer belangrijk dat studenten een goede en gezonde leeromgeving
hebben, dat ze weten wat de mogelijkheden zijn binnen en buiten de universiteit, en dat ze
goede begeleiding krijgen vanuit de universiteit om aan hun toekomst te werken.
Om dit te kunnen verwezenlijken, is het nodig dat de universiteit weet wat de student wil,
zodat de universiteit het juiste platform kan vormen voor iedere student. Iedere student
wordt gehoord: actief of niet-actief, internationaal of Nederlands, Bachelor of Master. Dat
is waar Front zich voor inzet: de brug tussen de student en de universiteit, om een optimaal
platform te bieden voor de ontwikkeling van ieder student. En dat is waarin ik de Extra Mile
ga, zodat alle studenten zich gehoord voelen.

My name is Naomi Coldenhoff, second year Psychology student.
Ever since I went to Tilburg University, a world of amazing experiences has opened up to
me. In my first year I became a part of several associations, including debating society Cicero
and study association Complex. In my second year e-sports association Link was added to
that list.
Through taking part in tournaments, commissions and volunteering, I got the opportunity
to broaden my horizon, meet new people, organize great things and above all: contribute
to society. I think that’s the best part of Tilburg University: the fact that there are a million
opportunities to broaden your horizon and pay tribute to society.
I want to facilitate that for all students: an amazing time in which you get so much
knowledge and experience, which you can use to fortify society.
Therefore it’s a necessity that students have a qualitative and healthy study environment,
that they know the possibilities inside and outside the university, and that they receive good
guidance from the university to work on their futures.
In order to do this, it’s necessary that the university understands the wishes of it’s students,
so that it can offer the right platform for every student. Every student should be heard:
active or not-active, international or Dutch, Bachelor or Master. That is what Front wants
to accomplish: the bridge between students and university, to offer an optimal platform for
the student’s development. And that is where I will go the Extra Mile, to make sure every

Mijn naam is Laura Picavet, ik ben 20 jaar en studeer Ondernemingsrecht en Fiscaal Recht.
Ik wilde graag een actief studentenleven naast mijn studies en ben daarom lid geworden
van studentenvereniging T.S.C. St. Olof en dispuut Beau Geste. Ik heb hier al verschillende
commissies gehad en momenteel ben ik samen met mijn commissie bezig om een
ondernemersplatform te creëren
Ik denk dat je studententijd niet alleen draait om het behalen van goede cijfers en het halen
van je studie binnen vier jaar. Er zijn in Tilburg ontzettend veel mogelijkheden om actief
te kunnen worden naast je studie. Door actief te zijn leer je veel vaardigheden die je door
alleen studeren niet zou ontwikkelen. Ook krijg je hierdoor een groot netwerk wat alleen
maar voordelen heeft. Ik vind het erg belangrijk dat er mogelijkheden worden geboden door
de Universiteit om actief te zijn naast je studie en dat de Universiteit flexibel is. Een student
zou door de Universiteit niet verplicht moeten worden om colleges te volgen, maar moet
juist gestimuleerd worden om zich te ontplooien naast het studeren.
Daarnaast vind ik de communicatie tussen de studenten en de Universiteit erg belangrijk.
Studenten moeten op tijd op de hoogte worden gebracht over veranderingen. Ook moet
het voor studenten duidelijker zijn naar wie zij moeten als ze een probleem hebben. Het is
belangrijk dat studenten gehoord worden tijdens hun studententijd en dat deze mening ook
serieus genomen wordt.
Ik zou volgend jaar graag een zetel in de Universiteitsraad voor Fractie Front bezitten, om de
belangen van de studenten te behartigen en me in te zetten voor de bovenstaande punten.

My name is Laura Picavet, I’m 20 years old and I’m a Business Law and Tax Law student.
I wanted an active student life next to my studies and therefore I joined the student
association T.S.C. Sint Olof and sorority Beau Geste. I’ve done various committees and
currently I am working together with my committee to create a business platform.
I think your student life is not only about achieving good grades and getting your diploma
within four years. There are a lot of possibilities in Tilburg to be active alongside your study.
By being active, you learn a lot of skills that you would not develop if you were just studying.
You also get a big network, which only has advantages. I find it very important that the
University offers possibilities to be active next to your studies and that the University is
flexible. A student should not be required by the University to attend lectures, but rather
should be encouraged to develop himself.
Moreover, I think the communication between the students and the University is very
important. Students should be informed in time about changes. Also it has to be clear to
whom students should go if they have a problem. It is important that students have a voice
during their student years, and that there opinion is taken seriously.
I would like to have a seat in the University Council for Student Party Front next year to
represent the interests of the students and to devote myself to the above points. I want to

Beste medestudenten,
Mijn naam is Pieter Winnemuller, en ik ben een vijfdejaars masterstudent Communication
Design. Al sinds het prille begin van mijn tijd in het gezellige Tilburg ben ik het belang en
de voordelen in gaan zien van actief zijn naast je studie. Zo ben ik sinds 2012 actief binnen
meerdere commissies van mijn studievereniging, Flow, en heb ik daar tevens de taak van
vicevoorzitter vervuld gedurende het collegejaar 2013-2014. Ook ben ik actief geweest voor
Fractie Front en bovendien ben ik dit jaar voorzitter van Word Actief Tilburg.
Extra-curriculaire activiteiten zoals deze worden steeds belangrijker, zeker met het oog op
het betreden van de arbeidsmarkt. Het is immers je cv waarmee jij jezelf onderscheidt ten
opzichte van jouw medestudent! Daarnaast is het de perfecte manier om je niet alleen op
academisch, maar ook op persoonlijk vlak te ontwikkelen. Het is daarom van groot belang
dat de universiteit de kansen en mogelijkheden biedt om dit zo goed mogelijk te kunnen
doen. Fractie Front zet zich hier al jaren voor in, en ik sta daar dan ook 100% achter.
Gedurende mijn bestuursjaar bij mijn studievereniging is ook de toestroom van
internationale studenten me opgevallen. De visie van Tilburg University is de laatste
jaren steeds internationaler geworden, iets dat behalve de uitwisselingsstudenten op de
campus ook terug te zien is in het groeiende aantal Engelstalige opleidingen en cursussen.
Een fatsoenlijk gebruik van de Engelse taal in de communicatie van de universiteit en
door docenten moet daarom vanzelfsprekend worden om zowel de Nederlandse als de
internationale student bij te kunnen staan!

Dear fellow students,
My name is Pieter Winnemuller and at the moment I am a fifth year master’s student
Communication Design. Ever since I came to Tilburg, I began to see the importance of
being an active student both on and off campus. Because of this, I have been a part of
multiple committees within my study association, Flow, besides having fulfilled the position of vice chairman during 2013-2014. This year I am also the chairman of Word Actief
Tilburg (Get Active Tilburg).
Engaging in extra-curricular activities like this have become more and more important,
especially with entering the job market is kept in mind. After all, the only thing that distinguishes you from your fellow students is your C.V.! Being an active student is obviously
also the perfect way to develop yourself not only on an academic, but also on a personal
level. This is why it is most important that the chances and possibilities to achieve this
are provided by the university. This has been one of Fractie Front’s key points for many
years and I still support them one hundred percent.
During my board year at my study association, I noticed the inflow of international students. Over the years, the vision of Tilburg University has shifted towards a more international perspective. Not only is this reflected by the amount of international students,
but also the growing amount of English programs and courses. A proper efficiency of the
English language through communication channels by the university but also by teachers
should therefore come naturally in order to assist both Dutch and international students
during their time in Tilburg!

Ik ben Koen Thijssen en ik ben 23 jaar oud. Ik zit nu in het vierde jaar van mijn bachelor

waarom is dit eigenlijk? Naar mijn mening is dit vanwege de enorme hoeveelheid kansen die
deze tijd met zich mee brengt. Het is dan ook doodzonde om enkel je boeken door te nemen
en de benodigde studiepuntjes te halen. Een diploma zal je namelijk niet gaan vormen. Het
zijn de ervaringen naast je studie die uiteindelijk je ontwikkeling bepalen. Na je studie zullen
bedrijven hier dan ook naar vragen. Hoe heb jij je ontwikkeld?
Mijn naam is Sven Verleun, 21 jaar oud en momenteel bestuurslid van de Academic Business
Club. In het eerste jaar van mijn studie ben ik een onderneming gestart op het gebied van
Marketing. Dit heeft mij doen inzien hoe waardevol activiteiten naast je studie kunnen zijn.
Een eyeopener die er vervolgens voor heeft gezorgd dat ik gedurende de afgelopen drie
jaar onder andere actief was bij UniPartners, de Academic Business Club, T.S.T.V. Lacoste en

‘Your study time is the best time of your life’. Everybody argues this, but why is that? I feel
this is because of the endless amount of chances this time has to offer us. It is therefore a
shame to just read your study books and acquire the necessary study points. Your diploma is
not going to help you develop yourself. It are the experiences alongside your studies which
will eventually determine your personal development. This is what companies are going to
ask you after you graduate. How did you develop yourself?

Mijn naam is Milou Rabelink. Ik ben 23 jaar en heb onlangs mijn bachelor Filosofie afgerond.
In mijn tijd op Tilburg University ben ik actief geweest in verschillende organisaties, zoals
de studievereniging en de faculteitsraad. In deze periode heb ik gemerkt hoe belangrijk de
medezeggenschap is. Niet alleen om bestaande processen te controleren en te bewaken,
maar ook om nieuwe ideeën te realiseren. Het heeft mij inzicht gegeven in de structuur
en organisatie van de universiteit en hoe studenten daarbij betrokken worden. Dit is het
derde jaar dat ik op de lijst van Fractie Front mag staan, en uiteraard sta ik nog steeds achter
deze keuze. Front maakt zich sterk voor de student die zowel van zijn studie wil genieten,
als alles daaromheen. Ze hebben de afgelopen jaren het studieklimaat op de universiteit
flink verbetert door bijvoorbeeld de UB eerder open te stellen, magnetrons te plaatsen
en de bemanning van de Student Desk geïntensiveerd. Een van de punten waar Front zich
aankomend collegejaar voor in wil zetten, is de communicatie in, van en naar de universiteit.
Ik denk dat hier nog veel winst te behalen valt en zal hen ook dit jaar hier in steunen.

My name is Milou Rabelink. I am 23 years old and have recently finished my bachelor in
Philosophy. In my time at Tilburg University I have been an active student. I was president of
the student-association and a member of the Faculty council. During this time I noticed the
importance of student participation. Not only to check existing processes, but even more
so, to realize new ideas. It helped me get insight in the structure and organization, and the
student participation in it, of our university. This is the third year I am on the list for Fractie
Front. And of course I stand by my choice. Front has always encouraged the student who
wants to make the most of his study and all extra-curricular activities. They greatly improved
the ‘study climate’ at the university by - for example - opening the UL earlier, placing
microwaves, and intensifying the staff members of the Student Desk. One of the main goals
Front wants to improve next year is the communication in, from and to the university. I think
this is an issue which can, and should be improved and will support them, again, this year.

Hallo allemaal,
Mijn naam is Jasmijn Bruin en ik ben tweedejaars student Psychologie. Vanaf het
begin van mijn bachelor ben ik actief bij studievereniging Complex. Vorig jaar in de
eerstejaarscommissie en dit jaar lid in het bestuur van Complex.
Vanaf de TOP week wist ik dat ik actief wilde worden naast mijn studie. Daardoor koos ik om
bij studentenvereniging Vidar en studievereniging Complex te gaan. Later bleek dit wat veel
te zijn voor een eerstejaars student, die ook haar BSA wilde halen, dus heb ik gekozen om
mijn actief lidmaatschap alleen bij Complex voort te zetten.
“De actieve student” sta ik dan ook volledig achter en ik raad iedereen aan om iets naast je
studie te doen. Vooral voor studies zoals Psychologie, waar het niet altijd gemakkelijk is om
een baan te krijgen, is het handig om je hoofd boven het maaiveld uit te steken. Tilburg is
een studentenstad en biedt enorm veel mogelijkheden voor een actief studentenleven, van
ontspannende tot studiegerelateerde activiteiten, dus maak daar gebruik van. Want een
goed begin als actieve student is het halve werk.

Hello everyone,
My name is Jasmijn Bruin and I am a second-year Psychology-student. I became an active
student at study association Complex in the first year of my bachelor. Last year in the first
year committee and this year as a board member of Complex.
Since the TOP week, I knew I wanted to be an active student besides my study. Therefore,
I choose to be a member of student association Vidar and study association Complex. It
turned out that two associations were a bit too much for a first-year student, who wanted to
get her BSA, so I choose to be an active member at Complex.
“The active student” is something that I fully support and I recommend everyone to do
something besides their study. Especially for studies as Psychology, where it is hard to find
a job. Tilburg is a city with a lot of students and it offers many opportunities for an active
student life, from relaxing to study related activities, so make us of that. Because a good

Ik ben Mike Nelissen en ben momenteel student Information Management. Studeren is een
schitterende periode in je leven en om dit in de toekomst nog beter te maken, ben ik van
mening dat we als studenten samen met Tilburg University onszelf hiervoor constant moeten inzetten. Dit zowel voor het onderwijs dat je ontvangt, dan wel het faciliteren van mogelijkheden voor studenten om actief te kunnen zijn naast hun studie. Na vier jaar studeren
op Tilburg University ben ik tot de conclusie gekomen dat juist Fractie Front deze belangen
behartigd.
Zelf ben ik actief lid geweest binnen mijn studievereniging Asset | SBIT en ben ik licentiehouder geweest van TEDxTilburgUniversity. Daarnaast ga ik altijd graag mee op de studiereizen die georganiseerd worden door verschillende verenigingen, om juist op deze manier
met medestudenten meer van de wereld te zien. Ik heb van al mijn ervaringen naast mijn
studie enorm veel geleerd en ben van mening dat actief bezig zijn voor elke student belangrijk is voor zijn/haar persoonlijke ontwikkeling. De pijlers van Fractie Front, namelijk internationalisatie, communicatie en de actieve student, zijn voor mij dan ook juist de speerpunten waarop gericht dient te worden.
Dit academisch jaar heeft Fractie Front zich goed laten zien onder de studenten en zijn
meerdere projecten succesvol geweest. Zo is er onder andere een campuscafé geopend, zijn
er buitenwerkplekken gerealiseerd en wordt er momenteel flink gewerkt aan digitalisering
om juist de communicatie tussen studenten, professoren en de universiteit te verbeteren.

Let me first introduce myself, I am Mike Nelissen and am currently studying Information
Management. The period of time when you are studying is one of the greatest periods in
your life. Therefore I believe that we should constantly work together with Tilburg University
in order to even further improve this amazing time. This applies to the education that you
receive, as well as facilitating the possibilities to become active during your study. After four
years of studying at Tilburg University, I have come to the conclusion that especially Fractie
Front is serving you as a student.
During my study I have been an active member at study association Asset | SBIT and have
been one of the Organizers of TEDxTilburgUniversity. Furthermore I often join the study trips
that are being organized in order to explore the world with my fellow students. By becoming
active, I have gained and learned so much from all of my experiences and I do think that it
is consequently essential for everybody’s personal development. The most important topics

Medezeggenschap op Tilburg University is nog vaak onzichtbaar, maar daarom niet minder
belangrijk. Mijn naam is Cleo Mauritsz en tijdens mijn bestuursjaar bij Asset | Econometrics vorig jaar, heb ik Fractie Front leren kennen als een zeer energieke fractie die actief de
samenwerking met studie- en studentenverenigingen opzoekt om zoveel mogelijk studenten
goed te kunnen vertegenwoordigen.
Al vroeg in mijn studentencarrière besefte ik me dat studeren zoveel meer is dan alleen
in de collegebanken zitten. Naast mijn studie Econometrie heb ik verschillende studentenbaantjes vervuld, commissies en een bestuursjaar gedaan bij Asset en op dit moment
bekleed ik de positie van Director bij De Kleine Consultant. Fractie Front vertegenwoordigt
mij en andere actieve studenten door zich in te zetten voor een flexibele universiteit en ruime ontwikkelingsmogelijkheden voor studenten.
Mede door de inzet van Fractie Front, staat Tilburg op dit moment bekend als een studentenstad met een hoog gehalte actieve studenten. Juist nu studeren een steeds duurdere

Student representation in the TiU University Council is often invisible, but nonetheless vital
to student life. My name is Cleo Mauritsz and during my board year at Asset | Econometrics last year, I got to know Fractie Front as a very energetic party that actively establishes a
cooperation with study and student associations to represent as many students as possible
to their best ability.
Early on in my study career, I realized that studying is about much more than attending
lectures. Besides my studies in Econometrics, I had various student jobs, did several committees and a board year at Asset and at this point I fulfil the position of Director at De

Beste medestudenten,
Mijn naam is Daan de Vries, ik ben 21 jaar en ik zit nu in mijn derde jaar van de bachelor
Bedrijfseconomie. In mijn eerste jaar ben ik niet gelijk bij een vereniging gegaan en heb ik
eerst gekeken wat Tilburg zoal te bieden had. Ik merkte dat ik toch iets miste en daarom
ben ik in mijn tweede jaar bij T.S.R. Vidar lid geworden. Momenteel ben ik nu coach van een
dames competitieploeg en heb ik afgelopen jaar in de PC (promotiecommissie) gezeten.
Je leert ontzettend veel tijdens je studententijd en niet alleen van je studie, maar ook
van alle nevenactiviteiten daaromheen. Ik heb bijvoorbeeld een roeiwedstrijd voor 1500
man mogen organiseren en hier doe je ongelofelijk veel ervaring mee op die je in de
collegebanken niet zult vinden. Fractie Front staat voor de actieve student die naast zijn of
haar studie nog iets extra’s wilt doen. Front probeert hier ruimte voor te creëren en een
voorbeeld hiervan is collegegeldvrij besturen. Een bestuursjaar bij een vereniging of een
andere instantie kunnen doen zonder daarvoor een heel jaar collegegeld betalen is een zaak
waar Front zich voor inzet en ik denk dat dit de actieve student zeker ten goede komt!
Als lijstduwer ben ik er van overtuigd dat de kandidaten van dit jaar de stem van de actieve
student zullen laten horen in de Universiteitsraad.

Dear fellow students,
My name is Daan de Vries, I’m 21 years old and I am now in my third year of the Bachelor
Business Economics. In my first year I did not join a student association, but I looked at what
Tilburg had to offer. I noticed that I still missed something and therefore I joined Student
Rowing Association Vidar in my second year. Currently I’m now coach of a women’s league
team and I was member of the Promotion Committee last year.
You learn a lot during your student life. Not only from your study, but also from all the extracurricular activities you can do. For example, I helped organize a rowing regatta for 1000
people in the beginning of April and you gain an experience you will not find in the lecture
halls. Party Front stands for the active students who want to do something extra in addition
to his or her studies. Front is trying to create space and an example is the initiative for doing
a board year without paying tuition fee.
I am convinced that the candidates this year will make the voice of the active student in the
University Council.

Beste medestudenten,
Ik ben Fleur Groeneweg en ik vertegenwoordig op dit moment jullie in de Universiteitsraad
als voorzitter van Fractie Front.
Het jaar is nu iets over de helft maar we hebben al veel bereikt. Aan het begin van het
collegejaar zijn de buitenwerkplekken gebouwd en hebben we een campuscafé geopend.
Op vele verzoeken is er een pilot in de Universiteitsbibliotheek van start gegaan om
openingstijden van 8:00 in het weekend te hanteren en hebben we magnetrons op
meerdere locaties op de campus geplaatst. Fractie Front heeft daarnaast een proces van
harmonisering van Onderwijs- en Examenreglementen in gang gezet. Dit heeft er onder
andere toe geleid dat op Tilburg Law School nu het hoogste cijfer telt in plaats van het
laatste cijfer bij een herkansing. Daarnaast hopen we ook dat studenten van TiSEM een
laatste vak regeling krijgen. Verder hebben we de Halalcorner en de Vegetarische Corner
in de Mensa uitbereid en daarnaast ben ik onderdeel van het Action team digitalization
in Education waarin ons initiatiefvoorstel over meer investeren in videocolleges wordt
uitgewerkt.
Een stem op Fractie Front is een stem op een proactieve fractie met leden en kandidaten die
zich volledig inzetten voor jouw belang binnen de universiteitsraad. Een fractie die streeft
naar een medezeggenschap waarin elke student gehoord wordt en net die extra stap zet om
dat te bereiken.

regulation at TiSEM. Furthermore, we have expended the Halalcorner en Vegetarian Corner
in the Mensa. Moreover I am a part of Action Team Digitalization in Education in which we
elaborated our initiative proposal about more investment in video lectures.
