Sept. 24, 2015 Teachers' Biweekly Message - Lynda Fuller 9/24/15 1:13 PM Sept. 24, 2015 Teachers' Biweekly Message North Carolina Public Schools <NCPublicSchools@public.govdelivery.com> Thu 9/24/2015 1:10 PM Inbox To: Lynda Fuller <Lynda.Fuller@dpi.nc.gov>; Having trouble viewing this email? View it as a Web page. Sept. 24, 2015 Governor McCrory has signed the 2015-17 biennial budget, signaling the end to one of the longest budget processes in history. The budget does increase beginning teacher salaries to $35,000. In addition, step increases for all eligible teachers and administrators were funded according to the salary schedules. That means educators scheduled to move up in the five-year salary bands will receive their scheduled salary increases. Approximately 32 percent of teachers will receive a raise this year. The budget also provides a one-time bonus of $750 for all state employees, including teachers and administrators and non-certified personnel. Teacher assistant positions will continue at the same level as in 2014-15, but local districts will no longer have the flexibility to transfer those funds to teaching positions. Growth in student enrollment was funded and we also saw an increase in textbook funds, and the extension of Read to Achieve summer reading camps to first and second graders, among other priorities. To view the side-by-side budget comparisons, please visit the Financial and Business Services website and look under What’s New. https://outlook.office.com/owa/#viewmodel=ReadMessageItem&ItemI…ATFQbVDaoQShvuEAAHhB8%2BfAAA%3D&IsPrintView=1&wid=51&ispopout=1 Page 1 of 5 Sept. 24, 2015 Teachers' Biweekly Message - Lynda Fuller 9/24/15 1:13 PM Say Yes to Education Partners with Guilford County Congratulations to Guilford County Schools’ Superintendent Mo Green and to the students and families of Guilford County. Under the program, county students accepted to and enrolled in a one-, two-, or four-year degree public university or certificate program would be provided with scholarship funding from the local endowment to cover tuition that isn’t covered by other grants and scholarships. Say Yes' selection of Guilford County brings the total number of students eligible for Say Yes scholarships and support services to nearly 140,000 across North Carolina and New York.
