and graduate students enrolled for 9 or more credit hours per semester. This definition
is a classification of individual students and is based on federal guidelines.

equivalent students, undergraduate credits are divided by 15, and graduate credits are
divided by 12.
SCH is an abbreviation for student credit hour. A student will typically earn 3 hours in
a course scheduled for 3 hours a week.

Survey of 1994, 1997 and 2000 Baccalaureate Degree Recipients
Five Years After Graduation
Surveys were sent to approximately 50% of the students receiving baccalaureate
degrees during calendar years 1994, 1997 and 2000, five years after their graduation.
Response rates varied by survey year and ranged from 44.2 percent for the 1994 survey to 32.9
percent for the 2000 survey. Table 41 displays responses to selected survey questions.
The chart below shows that over 98 percent of the 2000 five-year-out respondents
indicated they felt somewhat positive, positive or strongly positive toward the University. This
compares to 96.1 percent for the 1994 survey respondents and 98.0 percent of the 1997
respondents. Over 93 percent of the 2000 respondents indicated they felt somewhat positive,
positive or strongly positive toward their bachelor’s degree major. This compares to 92.5
percent for both the 1994 and 1997 survey respondents.

2000
Almost twenty-five percent of the 2000 five-year-out respondents indicated they had
earned an additional postsecondary degree since completing their bachelor’s degree. Fifty
percent earned an academic master’s degree, while 22 percent earned a professional master’s
degree.
Over 90 percent of the 2000 five-year-out respondents indicated they were employed
and 93 percent indicated they were somewhat satisfied, satisfied or very satisfied with their job.
The 2000 five-year-out respondents were more likely to indicate that the debt they
incurred during their undergraduate degree program created a moderate or serious financial
problem (36.1%) compared to the 1997 respondents (35.9%) and the 1994 respondents
(28.3%).
