Bank Fair (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM – Concourse, University Union) Looking for a bank in Macomb but don't have the time to drive around town and find the right one for you? Various banks from the Macomb community will be available to provide you with information regarding services and answer your questions. Convocation (5:30 PM – Western Hall) WIU faculty, staff, and students will officially welcome new undergraduate students and their families to Western Illinois University. All incoming first-year and transfer students should plan to attend this ceremony, which is designed to promote Western’s values: academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth, and social responsibility. Convocation is also a time to share in the rich traditions and history of the University. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 P.M. with a formal procession of faculty and administrators dressed in full academic regalia. President’s Picnic (6:15 PM – On the Campus Mall near the Spencer Student Recreation Center) Convocation participants are invited to attend the President’s Picnic immediately following New Student Convocation. (8:30 PM – Vince Grady Field) Paint blasters and cannons will dowse attendees with gallons and gallons of liquid glow in the dark, neon paint. Two DJ's get y’all dancing. Free t-shirts, glow in the dark necklaces and wristbands will be given out. Paint is certified non-toxic, biodegradable, and is washable. Free admission. Tuesday, August 25th Welcome Tents (7:30 AM – 2:00 PM – North and South of the University Union) Centennial Honors College Welcome Back Party (4:30 PM – 6:30 PM – Garden Lounge, Malpass Library) The Centennial Honors College will host a reception to welcome new freshman and transfer Honors students and to welcome back continuing honors students, honors faculty and honors staff. Students who may be eligible for the Honors College are also welcome. Kickball Under the Lights (8:00 PM – Hanson Field) We will feature kickball, football skills challenge, Baggo games, chair basketball, and dodgeball, hosted by the Rec Center. Zumba will be offered in the Mac Gym at the same time. This is the first of your required six week FYE events, and attendance will be taken by your RA at the hall before you head over to the football field. Thursday, August 27th BAC Root Beer Olympics (11:00 AM – On the mall area east of the Malpass Library) There will be free giveaways. Fraternity/Sorority Fair (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM – Grand Ballroom, University Union) This is an opportunity for students who are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority to meet representatives from all twenty-eight of our chapters. Mingle with other potential new members, talk with staff members, and meet with chapter members to get a feel for what it's like to be a member of the fraternity/sorority community at Western Illinois. Make sure to bring any questions you have because this will be the best place to have them all answered with so many resources at your disposal. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer/Questioning, Asexual/Ally (LGBTQA) New Student Orientation (6:00 PM – Capitol Room, University Union) The LGBTQA Resource Center welcomes all LGBTQA new students to this interactive, education program and to meet other students, faculty, and staff.
