Friday, August 21st
Residence Hall Move-in
(Beginning at 8:00 AM – Bayliss, Henninger, and Tanner Halls)
Depending on the time of your arrival, you can expect to wait for a while. Please be patient as the
Move-in Staff coordinates this process. They will have you and your family members moved into
your new residence hall room as soon as possible!
Bank Fair
(10:00 AM – 4:00 PM – Concourse, University Union)
Looking for a bank in Macomb but don't have the time to drive around town and find the right
one for you? Various banks from the Macomb community will be available to provide you with
information regarding services and answer your questions.
Convocation
(5:30 PM – Western Hall)
WIU faculty, staff, and students will officially welcome new undergraduate students and their
families to Western Illinois University. All incoming first-year and transfer students should plan to
attend this ceremony, which is designed to promote Western’s values: academic excellence,
educational opportunity, personal growth, and social responsibility. Convocation is also a time to
share in the rich traditions and history of the University. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 P.M.
with a formal procession of faculty and administrators dressed in full academic regalia.
President’s Picnic
(6:15 PM – On the Campus Mall near the Spencer Student Recreation Center)
Convocation participants are invited to attend the President’s Picnic immediately following New
Student Convocation.
Floor Connection
(8:00 PM – On Your Residence Hall Floor)
Meet with people on your floor for the first time, and get to know your Resident Assistant (RA)
and your neighbors before walking over to Rocky After Dark: First Night Fun festivities.

Join the free fun with food, caricature artists, balloon artists, henna tattoo artists, human foosball
and bowling, interactive games and more!
Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment Registration

Welcome to Western Illinois University! You are officially a Fighting Leatherneck! Join us for tons
of fun to kick off the school year, learn about WIU traditions, and begin your Leatherneck Legacy
at Western Illinois University.
Class of 2019 Photo Shoot
(10:30 AM – Hanson Football Field; Rain Location: Western Hall)
Join your fellow classmates to be a part of the Class of 2019 photo. Students will receive a free
shirt!
Academic Expectations
(11:15 AM – Various Locations)
Explore your academic opportunities, meet with faculty and other students within your major, and
learn about what you will need to do in order to fulfill the requirements for your major in your time
at Western Illinois University.

Placement Testing (MATH)
(2:00 PM – Stipes 307)
You will only need to participate in placement testing if you were notified of the necessity to take a
placement test in either math. Please refer to the appropriate placement testing documentation for
exact time and location.
Where are my Classes?

So, being new to campus can be kind of difficult, especially if you’re trying to figure out where all
your classes will be held! This will be your opportunity to explore campus, and to discover the
academic buildings and even the exact rooms where you will have your specific classes. Be sure to
bring your class schedule with you!
Block Party
(5:00-7:00 PM – Outside Bayliss, Henninger, & Tanner Halls)
Join us for an outdoor block party in the area of your new home. Dinner will be served outside,
along with yard games, music, and lots of surprises. Come check it out and make some new friends
while enjoying some food and fun!

Comedy Hypnosis and Magic with David Hall
(7:30 PM – Grand Ballroom, University Union)
Watch as David Hall astounds the audience while hypnotizing audience volunteers. So much fun,
and so many surprises! Free admission.
Light Up the Night!
(8:30 PM – Vince Grady Field)
Paint blasters and cannons will dowse attendees with gallons and gallons of liquid glow in the dark,
neon paint. Two DJ's get y’all dancing. Free t-shirts, glow in the dark necklaces and wristbands
will be given out. Paint is certified non-toxic, biodegradable, and is washable. Free admission.

Here is another opportunity to get to know your floor mates and your Resident Assistant (RA), as
well as find out useful information about living in your residence hall. Ask questions and provide
suggestions for programs or fun activities to happen throughout the year. Look for signs on your
floor to tell you exact time and location.

Greek Life Programs staff will provide you with information and statistics about the community
and Council Representatives will discuss how to get involved and join. Students will have the
opportunity to ask questions to the staff and students who are involved in what makes
fraternity/sorority a great opportunity at Western.

Centennial Honors College Welcome Back Party
(4:30 PM – 6:30 PM – Garden Lounge, Malpass Library)
The Centennial Honors College will host a reception to welcome new freshman and transfer
Honors students and to welcome back continuing honors students, honors faculty and honors
staff. Students who may be eligible for the Honors College are also welcome.
Kickball Under the Lights
(8:00 PM – Hanson Field)
We will feature kickball, football skills challenge, Baggo games, chair basketball, and dodgeball,
hosted by the Rec Center. Zumba will be offered in the Mac Gym at the same time. This is the
first of your required six week FYE events, and attendance will be taken by your RA at the
hall before you head over to the football field.

BAC Root Beer Olympics
(11:00 AM – On the mall area east of the Malpass Library)
There will be free giveaways.
Fraternity/Sorority Fair
(5:00 PM – 8:00 PM – Grand Ballroom, University Union)
This is an opportunity for students who are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority to meet
representatives from all twenty-eight of our chapters. Mingle with other potential new members,
talk with staff members, and meet with chapter members to get a feel for what it's like to be a
member of the fraternity/sorority community at Western Illinois. Make sure to bring any questions
you have because this will be the best place to have them all answered with so many resources at
your disposal.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer/Questioning, Asexual/Ally (LGBTQA) New
Student Orientation
(6:00 PM – Capitol Room, University Union)
The LGBTQA Resource Center welcomes all LGBTQA new students to this interactive, education
program and to meet other students, faculty, and staff. The LGBTQA Lounge will also be
available to tour.

Mud Volleyball
(8:00 AM – 8:00 PM – The Volleyball Courts near North Quad)
Teams of at least six students compete in this one-day tournament. Food, music, and
entertainment will be available. Pick up registration packets from any hall’s information desk or
from the Student Recreation Center. A $25 entry fee will be collected from each team.

Activities and Volunteer Fair

Get involved in campus activities and student organizations along with meeting representatives
from various volunteer and service agencies in Macomb. More than 150 groups will be represented
in addition to 30 Macomb area businesses. Come and find your "fit" at WIU.
Local Business Fair
(3:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Grand Ballroom Gallery and Conference Lobby, University
Union)
Want to learn more about what Macomb has to offer? At the Local Business Fair Macomb
businesses will introduce you to their services and products. Stop by for free giveaways.
Rock Climbing at Horn Field Campus
(Depart from Student Recreation Center at 4:00 PM; return approximately 7:30
PM)
Transportation is provided for all trips. No experience necessary. All equipment is provided.

Rock Climbing at So iLL Climbing Gym
(Depart from the Student Recreation Center at 7:00 AM; return approximately
6:00 PM)
Join us for a day trip to one of the best Climbing Gyms in the region. No experience necessary for
this indoor rock climbing trip. Transportation is provided. Cost is $25. Register in the Campus
Recreation Office by 4:30 PM on September 3rd.

All University students and community residents are invited to this FREE family-friendly event
featuring music, free food, and activities. Local businesses will have displays, giveaways, and a free
raffle drawing for great prizes!
Panhellenic Sorority Meet & Greet
(7:00 PM – 9:00 PM – Brattain Lounge, University Union)
Women who are interested in joining a Panhellenic (PHC) sorority will have the opportunity to
meet with representatives for our six NPC affiliated organizations. Members of Alpha Sigma
Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Chi Omega, Delta Zeta, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Sigma Sigma Sigma will be
available to answer questions about their organizations and events. Our Recruitment Team will
also be available to answer any questions you have about registering for recruitment and the
recruitment process.

Career Carnival

This event sponsored by the Career Development Center features nine booths of career oriented
activities! Come out and compete in a tie-dying contest, career trivia, and Wheel-of-Fortune.
There will also be fortune telling, raffle drawings, popcorn, and more!
Panhellenic Sorority Kick-off and Orientation
(7:00 PM – 9:00 PM – Heritage Rooms, University Union)
Women interested in participating in the recruitment process should attend this informational
meeting. The Recruitment Team will discuss the "ins and outs" the "dos and don'ts" of the
recruitment process. They will also walk through the schedule and what to wear to be comfortable
throughout the weekend.

Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment Philanthropy [Round 1]

This is the first round of the Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment Process. Registered participants
should check-in at the Brattain Lounge between 3:00-3:45pm. The round will begin promptly at
4:00pm. Rounds 2 and 3 are by invitation only.
"The Big Picture" and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer/Questioning,
Asexual/Ally (LGBTQA) Picnic
(4:00 PM – Free Speech Circle behind the University Union)
The LGBTQA Resource Center at Western Illinois University will sponsor the 11th annual "The
Big Picture." All members of the Western and Macomb communities are invited to participate as a
show of support. Following the picture, join the LGBTQA Resource Center, members of Unity,
and the University Committee on Sexual Orientation Gender Identity and Expression
(UCOSOGIE) for food, fun and opportunities to interact. All are welcome.
