University of Northern Iowa Academic Learning Center Learning Enhancement Lab: Spring 2016 Schedule Course: Introduction to Statistical Methods (Sections 1, 2, 3, 7) Learning Enhancement Labs target high volume high impact math and science courses to provide academic support that fosters exploratory and collaborative learning among students, augments the classroom experience and cultivates the sharing of knowledge and ideas between faculty who are teaching the common course. The Learning Enhancement Lab provide opportunities for students to discuss material in areas related to the lecture, get questions answered, learn and develop their learning and study skills, expand on course content through project based learning. The Learning Enhancement Lab is an extension of the course and combines aspects of the Supplemental Instruction and course recitation models. Lab facilitators do not lecture; however, they attend class, take notes and serve as a model peer to students. The major goals of the Learning Enhancement Lab are to: 1. Increase retention in high volume high impact courses by reducing the number of students receiving D, F, I, and W grades. 2. Provide students an environment where they are able to LEARN collaboratively with their peers, CONNECT course content across the curriculum and APPLY content knowledge to real world problems. 3. Foster collaboration between faculty who teach common high volume high impact courses.
