Important Completion Dates
for Education Graduate Students

The following dates apply for Education master’s and doctoral students planning to complete degree requirements by the end of the Summer 2016 term.
Dates marked with an asterisk (*) are suggested guidelines to ensure University deadlines are met. Contact your Program Assistant if you have any
questions regarding deadlines or degree completion requirements.
Comprehensive Examination (EDUC 883-5 or EDUC 983-5)
Master of Education (MEd)
May 20
Last day for students to register in EDUC 883-5.
August 15 Deadline for Senior Supervisor to submit comprehensive examination results to student and Education Graduate Programs office.

Doctor of Education (EdD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
May 20
Graduate Programs Director’s last day to approve comprehensive examination arrangements. Graduate Programs staff enroll doctoral students
in EDUC 983-5.

Thesis Examinations
Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc)
July 18
Aug 16
Student’s last day to submit to the Graduate Programs office, a completed Approval of Examining Committee for a Master’s Student form and
required digital copy of the thesis. Regulations require paperwork and the digital copy of the thesis to be submitted at least four weeks prior
to the thesis examination date.
Last day a thesis examination should be held.
Doctor of Education (EdD), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
June 23*
Student’s last day to submit to the Graduate Programs office, a completed Approval of Examining Committee for a Doctoral Student form and
required digital copy of the thesis. Regulations require paperwork and the digital copy of the thesis to be submitted at least six weeks prior to
the thesis examination date. However, it’s recommended that paperwork and thesis be submitted eight weeks prior to the thesis
examination date.
Aug 16*
Last day a thesis examination should be held.
Library Deadline
Aug 31
Last day to submit, by noon, the required Theses or Projects, with documents, to the Library. Contact your Program Assistant for details.
Graduation Deadline
Aug 19
Last day for all MA, MEd, MSc, EdD, and PhD students completing in Summer 2016 to apply for graduation. Apply at
http://www.sfu.ca/convocation/students/howtoapply.html
Tuition Refund: Students who complete their program requirements during the first month of the term may be eligible for a 75% refund of the tuition
portion of their student fees (deadline: Sept 30, 2016). Further information is available at www.sfu.ca/dean-gradstudies.
