To whom it may concern, This is a statement regarding my student placement with Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA). My placement was from 27/7/15-25/11/15, with an overall work time of 32 hours. The work I undertook has conferred key skills and experiences, which I feel will greatly help me in the future. Initially, I signed up for the Monash University Science Faculty’s Science Industry Placement Program (SIPP) because I wanted to apply the skills and knowledge I was learning at university outside of the standard university environment. The SIPP helped by giving me the opportunity to apply for various placement programs, depending on my interests and availability. The result was I participated in conservation volunteering with CVA, where I met many lovely people whom I worked with to maintain environmental reserves designed to protect various flora and fauna. I found the experience to be very enjoyable, and I was able to apply several skills learned from university as part of the placement, as well as learn many new things along the way! I would highly recommend the Monash SIPP to students who are interested in putting themselves out there, and applying themselves outside of their standard university activities. It is a very interesting and fun way to meet new people, learn new things and become involved in areas relevant to your studies. Samantha Mibus Environmental Science Student, November 2015
