Las Vegas to Host NACUSAC’s 2014 Conference
Las Vegas, one of the most entertaining cities on the planet, is hosting NACUSAC’s 2014 Annual Conference, June 11-14.
Conference attendees will be staying at the iconic Caesars Palace at the heart of the famous Las Vegas Strip. Once at
Caesars, guests never have to leave the property to experience the best Las Vegas has to offer. World-class
entertainment, shopping and an array of restaurants to satisfy every taste are all located in Caesars Palace and the
adjacent Forum Shops.
As your committee looks at its education and training calendar for the coming year, be sure to include NACUSAC’s 2014
Annual Conference & Expo—a not-to-be-missed event for supervisory and audit committees who are looking for
specialized training and networking. The conference registration rate for NACUSAC is $995 for members and a special
room rate of $179 a night has been negotiated at Caesars Palace. Program details will continue to be added to
NACUSAC’s website at www.nacusac.org.
It’s Renewal Time!
Watch your inbox for NACUSAC membership renewal notices. In 2014, you’ll be able to go online to renew your
NACUSAC membership either using a credit card or check for payment. Since your credit union holds the membership in
NACUSAC, discounts on training and free webinars are available to everyone on your credit union’s committee and staff
for one annual membership cost of $400.
Unlike other auditing conferences that are put on by CEO/executive groups or firms selling their own services, NACUSAC
is the only independent organization that is dedicated exclusively to educating supervisory and auditing committees.
NACUSAC programs are laser-focused on the needs of the committee while providing the widest range of perspectives in
the industry.
How NACUSAC Can Help with Your Committee's Biggest Challenges
Credit unions are looking at every dollar spent on education, training and memberships. Often volunteer training is the
first item to be cut from the budget. Unfortunately, the biggest fraud losses and the greatest exposure to risk can
happen to a credit union whose supervisory committee has either been kept in the dark or their role has been
marginalized by the board or management. One of the metrics now being studied as a predictor of a financial
institution’s success is peer training opportunities. Findings indicate that participation in quality education directly
correlates to a high level of success at credit unions. NACUSAC has identified some of the biggest challenges today’s
supervisory and audit committees are facing and how it can help:
Webinar Spotlight: Fair Lending
Expectations & Compliance
NACUSAC recently held a free webinar for members on fair
lending practices and compliance. If you missed the
webinar led by Crowe Horwath’s Niall Twomey, there are
some important considerations for any credit union
involved in mortgage, consumer and/or indirect lending.
Regardless of the types of lending your credit union offers,
expectations have increased in regard to data analysis,
monitoring activity and reviewing third-party compliance.
Recently, fair lending practices have come under greater
scrutiny for smaller financial institutions making many credit
unions a target for regulators. Here are some of the general
risk areas that Twomey identified:
If your credit union may be exposed to any of these risks,
consider purchasing a CD of the webinar recording which
includes more in-depth details about this important topic.
CDs cost $39 for NACUSAC members. To order, call (800)
287-5949 or email lauren@nacusac.org.
