Dr. Celina Peerman is a trainer and instructional designer
specializing in organizational behavior and human resource
management-related topics. Her experience includes senior
leadership roles in profit and non-profit organizations. Her work
in Southeast Asia and Canada further developed her strong
international interests. For 20 years, Celina has facilitated
discussions on workplace behavior for local, state and national
audiences. Celina’s passion is for how people behave at work;
the good, the bad and the worst. Her style has been described
as dynamic noting the ability to draw in even the most resistant
attendees through real life examples and humor.

Jerry Walsh is currently the Safety Coordinator for the Green Bay
Packers. Jerry previously spent time as the Corporate Education
Manager and a Regional Risk Manager for Miron Construction Co.,
Inc., the company selected to be the risk manager for the new
expansion project at Lambeau Field. He had worked with various
electrical contractors before teaming up with Miron Construction
Co., Inc. and the Green Bay Packers. Jerry is an OSHA 10 and
30 hour Outreach Instructor for both General Industry and
Construction, and a MSHA instructor.

Lt. Charles Fields currently serves as a Patrol Lieutenant for the
Cedar Rapids Police Department. He has been with the Police
Department for 22 years. Lt. Fields is the lead instructor for the
Cedar Rapids Police Department and is an Iowa Law Enforcement
Academy Regional Instructor for active shooter response tactics.
Lt. Fields has conducted site security surveys and training at
schools, churches, banks, and numerous other businesses within
the community. In 2012, Lt. Fields was the recipient of the Cedar
Rapids Police Department Community Service Award for his efforts
in keeping the community safe.

Cari Lamb is a Loss Prevention Representative with West Bend
Mutual Insurance Company. Prior to her position with West Bend,
Cari worked directly with customers and their safety needs at
Millhiser Smith Insurance Agency. Cari has been in the insurance
industry for over 13 years and has been involved with safety
and claims for the last ten. She works with a variety of different
industries. Her passion is to help customers prevent losses from
happening, and if they do happen, addressing why the injury may
have occurred.

Mary McLaughlin has been with the US Department of Labor
OSHA’s Des Moines Area Office since 2009. Mary’s safety and
health career began here in Iowa working for the state as an
Industrial Hygiene Consultant, helping employers develop and
implement safety and health programs. Mary previously worked
in the private sector for Texas Instruments and General Electric
in their Transportation Systems division (GETS), managing safety
and health programs, conducting safety and health training, and
providing evaluations affecting some 8,000 workers.

session will examine elements for success to meet federal, state,
organizational and individual contributor expectations.

performance by joining the Safety
Partners Training Consortium.
Creating and implementing effective safety programs within an
organization is difficult work that requires a delicate balance of
resources. The Safety Partners Training Consortium will provide
you with training and additional support necessary to take your
safety program to the next level. Each individual training session
features a recognized expert ready to give you the tools to
implement best practices in your business.
To help you accomplish results and implement effective change,
Kirkwood Training & Outreach Services (KTOS) has partnered with
Dr. Celina Peerman, an industrial-organizational psychologist who
specializes in employee performance as part of long-term culture
change. Her experience working within quality systems in a wide
range of industries will support your efforts to make a long-term
impact. Part of each session will be dedicated to practical ways to
use the information and form a plan before you go back to the job.
How do you become a partner?
To join the consortium, you simply invest in a “season pass” for
the 2016 training sessions. All sessions interrelate. It is highly
recommended that you attend all four sessions. Individual
course enrollment will be allowed for a separate fee.
PREVENTING AND ADDRESSING
NON-ROUTINE INJURIES ROUNDTABLE
How can we understand how hurrying, helping out, and unexpected
situations create potential risk when people aren’t ready or
trained? Hear from a variety of speakers and share some of your
own experiences.
At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
•Recognize the key elements to a successful safety training program.
•Review OSHA standards and requirements for training topics and levels.
•Identify OSHA resources to support company needs and gaps.
•Examine best training practices to create relevant and meaningful content.
At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
•Recognize risk associated with non-routine situations that arise in the workplace.
•Discuss a variety of responses to pre- and post-accidents to better understand managing non-routine or first time issues.
•Compare and contrast a variety of best practices and policies to apply to your own safety program.

Whether you are new to safety training or you’ve been around
a long time, there is always something to learn. Join us for
discussion with OSHA experts on current regulations and
what they see as emerging priorities. Visit with other company
representatives, learn real examples of how to respond
to inspections and findings, and find ways to implement
corrective actions.
UNDERSTANDING ACTIVE
SHOOTER TRAINING METHODS
Active shooter training has become a highly recognized
approach to preparing our workplaces and preventing tragic
outcomes. Ask questions and speak with those who prepare
and conduct the training. Listen to advice and recommendations
about everyday actions you can take to be even more prepared
in your organization.
At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
•Understand the differences in jurisdiction and the role each office plays in the state of Iowa.
•Examine OSHA updates and requirements for safety training.
•Compare and contrast various approaches for handling inspections.
•Identify best practices when responding to citations and required corrective actions.

•Recognize essential factors in creating and conducting
active shooter training.
•Identify resources to help companies examine risk and opportunity for training.

situation examples.
