place on campus for seniors and co-op students.

Career Services at UW-Stout
Career Services is a centralized office at UW-Stout which
serves students from all majors on campus. One of the main
services students utilize is individual appointments with
professional career counselors. New this year was the spring
Virtual Career Conference in which students and employers
chatted online about career opportunities. Both the employers
and students who participated found this to be an excellent
way to connect. Mock Interview Days, in its third year, is an
event that gives students the opportunity to conduct practice
interviews with employers on campus. CareerSpots (our online
career video library) continues to add new career related video
content to our website and is utilized by many students 24/7.
The BIG Guide Online is also available to students and is one
of the world’s best international career guides for students
and young professionals considering going abroad to study,
volunteer, intern, teach or work! Career Services continues to
provide cutting edge resources to assist students and alumni
with their professional career goals.

UW-Stout graduates have an average employment rate of 97 percent for the past 10 years.
Employment Trends
Nationally, the recruitment of Bachelor’s degree graduates
increased by five percent, according to Michigan State
University’s Recruiting Trends 2012–2013 survey. Along
with a Bachelor’s degree, employers seek candidates who
demonstrate a strong work ethic, have realistic expectations
of the world of work, are able to apply their knowledge,
and are open to learn about the culture of the organization.
This year the survey shows that employers want to identify
and build relationships with students earlier in their college
experience. At UW-Stout, the number of co-op students has
risen to more than 925 and many co-op students (sophomores
or juniors) receive offers for employment upon graduation.
The co-op advantage benefits all three partners: the student
applies their knowledge, builds valuable experience and
professional networks; the university builds continuous
quality feedback for curriculum; and the employer builds a
talent pipeline at UW-Stout.
The job market remains competitive this year. Students
need to define where they would like to work, learn how
to search for these opportunities, and build the skills and
experience necessary along with a network within their
profession. At UW-Stout we believe that it takes a campus
to build a career. Career Services programs and individual
career counselor appointments are available to all students
at UW-Stout. Faculty members also integrate career information into the curriculum. Together the entire campus is
helping students define and build a career even before they
