Geafol encapsulated dry-type
transformers are required for indoor
installations where safety and
reliability are mandatory.
DIN EN ISO 9001
They are recommended principally
in places with the presence of
people, such as: factories in general,
chemical and petrochemical
industries, alimentary products,
buildings, hospitals, shopping
centers, mining, transports, etc.

Geafol dry-type transformers were
developed to meet all technical and
safety requirements as well as
environmental circunstances.
The Geafol transformer performs
a technical innovation introduced by
Siemens in the world market in 1966
and in Brazil in 1978.
The technology is being improved
continually, having today a world wide
degree of excellence.
Safety and reliability
Liquid-insulated transformers, using
liquids such as mineral oil, silicone, or
R.temp (even this with higher flash
point) do not eliminate the risk of
explosion, leakage, insulating liquid
pollution, etc.
Thus, the liquid-insulated solutions
are only palliative, not final. Geafol
transformers are of exceptional
safety and reliability and
distinguished by no explosion
risk by hardily flammable
and self-extinguishing materials.
Life expectancy
The smaller the internal partial
discharge levels, the longer is the life
expectancy of a dry transformer.
That is the reason partial discharge
tests are routine in our factories.
The Geafol Transformers are alone
free of internal partial discharges up
to twice the rated voltage, assuring
equal or longer life expectancy than
of oil insulated transformers or other
dry-type transformers.
Economy
When installed on the load centers,
they reduce the need of low voltage
cables or bus-bars; thus they save the
enegy dissipated by the cables or
bus bars and reduce the operational
costs.
Masonry workmanship: There is no
requirement for fire doors, liquid
collection well and fire fighting
systems.
Electrical characteristics: Resistant to
impulse and applied test voltages.
Large resistance to leakage currents.
The Geafol transformer occupies only
40 % of the area and 35% of the
volume of an equivalent liquid
insulated transformer.
Mechanical characteristics: Shortcircuit resistant and mechanically
strong. At request earthquake
resistant.
Protection devices: They do not need
protection devices and instruments
such as: gas relay, level indicator,
manometer, over-pressure valve, etc.
This reduces risks of faults,
installation costs and maintenance.
Environment: Are not affected by
the ambient moisture.
Only a temperature switch is
recommended.
Versatility of the localization
Insulating liquid transformers require
for safety reasons special places for
installation. Geafol transformers in
opposition maybe installed practically
in any "corner".
In addition they need less space
and enable easy change of lay-out
because of the reduced weight
and size.
Economy in the total installation
The simplification of the electric
fitting and masonry workmanship
should more than offset any eventual
difference of cost of the Geafol
transformer considered separately.
Distinguishing Marks
Maintenance: Free
Overloads: Easily support large
overloads. With adequate cooling
by forced air the rated capacity
increases 40%.
Ecology: Low noise level.
Assembled with hardly flammable
and self-extinguishing materials.
In the event a Geafol transformer is
involved by fire they neither explode
nor release toxic gases or ashes.
Free of pollution elements respect to
underground and water sources.
Special workability
Recommended for feeding rectifiers
and converters for driving transports
and rolling mills.
Standards
Transcend the requirements of the
IEC-726 and NBR-10295 Standards.
Supplied to thousands of customers
all over the world for the most
diverse applications. Siemens can
provide reference list on request.
