Learning y Services LearningTechnolog Technology Services A Unit of Learning Information and Technology Saving the Research Poster Submission Form as a PDF File When you submit your poster as PowerPoint and PDF files, you must submit the Research Poster Submission form along with them as a PDF file. Submitting it as a PDF file ensures that we can easily identify the form that goes with each poster. This helps to ensure that you get the poster that you submitted and lessens the time you have to spend waiting when you come to pick up your poster. When you click on the link for the form, your computer will prompt you with options based on what internet browser you are using. If you are using Google Chrome: Click on the download link for the form. The form should bring up a bar at the bottom of the browser window. Clicking on the title of the file will open it with Microsoft Word. OR If the bar does not appear, go to the “Customize and Control Google Chrome” drop down menu. This can be found on the right-hand side of the address bar. Use the menu to choose the “Downloads” option. This will bring up a new tab of all the files that have recently been downloaded with Google Chrome. Here, you can click the title of the file to open it. If you are using Internet Explorer: Click on the download link for the form. The browser will prompt you with the options to open, save, or save as. Choose the open option. OR If the browser does not prompt you with options, go to the “Tools” drop down menu. This can be found in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window, and is represented by a gear icon. From this menu, choose the “View Downloads” option. Clicking the “Open” button next to the file name will open the file with Microsoft Word. If you are using Mozilla Firefox: Click on the download link for the form. A window will appear, prompting you to either open the file with a program or to save the file. Choosing to open the file right away means that it will not be saved anywhere on your computer until you save it manually. Choosing to save the file will save it in your downloads, but allows you to save it manually in the future. Select the option that you prefer and click OK. If you chose to open the file with Microsoft Word, skip down to the “Editing and Saving the File section of this tutorial. If you chose to save the file, you must open the downloads section of the browser to open your file. To do this, click on the down arrow, which is located in the upper right hand corner of the browser window. Then, click anywhere in the box containing the information about the file. This will open it in Microsoft Word. This will allow you to make changes to the file. You must fill in Section A on the form. Sections B and C are option. Read the descriptions for Sections B and C to help you decide if you wish to fill out and agree to these sections. If you would like more information on these two sections, there are more lengthy descriptions on the Research Posters web page. The amount of time it takes to process your order will not be affected by your choices for Sections B and C. However, if you do not submit the from at all, or do not complete Section A, the time it takes to complete your poster will be increased. At the end of the form, do not attempt to add a signature or date. You will sign and date the form when you come to retrieve your poster. After you have completed the form, go to the “File” tab of Microsoft Word, and click the “Save as Adobe PDF” option. In the saving window, change the name of the file to conform to the naming standards listed in the “File Naming Conventions” document on the Research Posters web page. Click Save. Once you have saved the file as a PDF with the proper naming conventions, you can submit your form to LTS by emailing it to researchposters@uwstout.edu.
