Saving the Research Poster Submission Form as a PDF File
When you submit your poster as PowerPoint and PDF files, you must submit the Research Poster
Submission form along with them as a PDF file. Submitting it as a PDF file ensures that we can
easily identify the form that goes with each poster. This helps to ensure that you get the poster that
you submitted and lessens the time you have to spend waiting when you come to pick up your
poster.
When you click on the link for the form, your computer will prompt you with options based on what
internet browser you are using.
If you are using Google Chrome:
Click on the download link for the form.
The form should bring up a bar at the bottom of
the browser window. Clicking on the title of the
file will open it with Microsoft Word.
OR
If the bar does not appear, go to the “Customize
and Control Google Chrome” drop down menu.
This can be found on the right-hand side of
the address bar. Use the menu to choose the
“Downloads” option.
This will bring up a new tab of all the files that
have recently been downloaded with Google
Chrome. Here, you can click the title of the file
to open it.

Once you have the file open, skip to the “Editing and Saving the File” Section.
If you are using Internet Explorer:
Click on the download link for the form.
The browser will prompt you with the options
to open, save, or save as. Choose the open
option.
OR
If the browser does not prompt you with options,
go to the “Tools” drop down menu. This can
be found in the upper right-hand corner of
the browser window, and is represented by a
gear icon. From this menu, choose the “View
Downloads” option.

Doing this will bring up another window that lists
all the files recently downloaded with Internet
Explorer. Clicking the “Open” button next to the
file name will open the file with Microsoft Word.
If you are using Mozilla Firefox:
Click on the download link for the form.
A window will appear, prompting you to either
open the file with a program or to save the file.
Choosing to open the file right away means that
it will not be saved anywhere on your computer
until you save it manually. Choosing to save the
file will save it in your downloads, but allows
you to save it manually in the future. Select the
option that you prefer and click OK.
If you chose to open the file with Microsoft
Word, skip down to the “Editing and Saving the
File section of this tutorial.
If you chose to save the file, you must open the
downloads section of the browser to open your
file. To do this, click on the down arrow, which
is located in the upper right hand corner of the
browser window. Then, click anywhere in the
box containing the information about the file.
This will open it in Microsoft Word.

Editing and Saving the File:
Once you have the file open, click “Enable Editing”. This will allow you to make changes to the file.
You must fill in Section A on the form. Sections B and C are option. Read the descriptions for Sections
B and C to help you decide if you wish to fill out and agree to these sections. If you would like more
information on these two sections, there are more lengthy descriptions on the Research Posters
web page. The amount of time it takes to process your order will not be affected by your choices for
Sections B and C. However, if you do not submit the from at all, or do not complete Section A, the
time it takes to complete your poster will be increased. At the end of the form, do not attempt to add
a signature or date. You will sign and date the form when you come to retrieve your poster.
After you have completed the form, go to the
“File” tab of Microsoft Word, and click the “Save
as Adobe PDF” option. In the saving window,
change the name of the file to conform to the
naming standards listed in the “File Naming
Conventions” document on the Research
Posters web page. Click Save.
Once you have saved the file as a PDF with the proper naming conventions, you can submit your
form to LTS by emailing it to researchposters@uwstout.edu.
