NCEXTEND1 Grades 3-8 and 10
Student Report for School Year 2014-15
______________________________________________________________________________________
The NCEXTEND1 Alternate Assessment at Grades 3–8 and 10 is a performance-based assessment designed to assess students with
significant cognitive disabilities. NCEXTEND1 Alternate Assessment items are grade-level performance items that measure the
standards specified in the North Carolina Extended Content Standards. These Extended Content Standards are available for download
at http://www.ncpublicschools.org/curriculum/ncecs. Students enrolled in grades 3–8 and 10 receive scores for English Language
Arts/Reading and Mathematics. Students in grades 5, 8, and 10 also receive a score for Science.
The NC READY Student Report for NCEXTEND1 is divided into three columns. The column on the left contains your student’s
achievement level descriptor. The column in the middle lists your student’s scores, and the column on the right provides a comparison
of your student’s total score to the total range of possible scores (0–30).
A
Column 1: Student’s Achievement Level Descriptor
The achievement level descriptor indicates what knowledge, skills, and abilities your student demonstrated based on his or her level
of achievement on the test. This report contains only a partial description of your student’s achievement level. A complete listing of
the achievement level descriptors and score ranges for each level can be found at the North Carolina Department of Public
Instruction/Accountability Services Division website at http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/testing/shared/achievelevel.

C
Your student’s grade level is the assessed grade.
There are 15 items (15 English language arts/reading items, 15 mathematics items, 15 science items) on each NCEXTEND1
test. Students are provided up to two opportunities to respond to each item, and items are scored on a 0–2 point scale. The
number of questions your student answered correctly on each test is reported as the total score.
There are five achievement levels reported (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). Your student is assigned an achievement level based on his or
her total score.
An achievement level of 3, 4, or 5, which is indicated on the report by YES, means your student is proficient in the knowledge
and skills assessed by the test. An achievement level of 1 or 2, which is indicated on the report by NO, means your student is
not proficient in the knowledge and skills assessed by the test and will likely need academic support to be successful in this
content area in the future.
Column 3: Total Score Comparisons
The student bar shows your student’s total score compared to the total range of possible scores (0–30).

This report provides information about your student’s scores on the NCEXTEND1 tests given in 2015. The scores on these tests are only one of
the many indicators of how well your student is achieving. Test scores should always be considered along with all other available information
provided about your student. See the reverse side of this report for an explanation of information provided on this report.
A
1 - Student´s Achievement Level Descriptor
Students performing at this level have a sufficient command of grade-level knowledge
and skills contained in the Extended Content Standards of the English Language Arts
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) at Grade 8, but they may need academic support
to engage successfully in this content area in the next grade level. They are prepared for
the next grade level but are not yet on track for college-and-career readiness without
additional academic support.
Students performing at this level have partial command of the knowledge and skills
contained in the Extended Content Standards of the Common Core State Standards
(CCSS) for Mathematics assessed at Grade 8 and will likely need academic support to
engage successfully in further studies in this content area.
Students performing at this level demonstrate the ability to graph data points in the first
quadrant of a coordinate plane. They are able to use variables to represent numbers and
evaluate expressions for a variable using addition and subtraction. They are also able to
use multiplication to determine the area of rectangles.
Students performing at this level have solid command of the knowledge and skills
contained in the Extended Content Standards of the North Carolina Essential Standards
(ES) for Science at Grade 8 and are academically prepared to engage successfully in
further studies in this content area.
Students performing at this level are able to identify forms of energy. They are able to
recognize that a whole object weighs the same as all of its parts together. They are also
able to identify Earth’s saltwater and freshwater features. The students identify results of
water conservation or pollution. They are able to identify that, in a simple food chain,
energy transfers from the sun to plants (producers), animals (consumers), and organisms
that cause decay (decomposers). They are also able to identify ways to prevent germs
from causing illness and infection.
