TIME MANAGEMENT Worksheet
Managing yourself and your priorities are the key to your success!
There are only 168 hours in a week. How will you spend them?
The average full-time student spends 12 hours a week in class (12 for spring & fall; 6 in
the summer). For each credit hour you spend in class, another 2 hours are usually spent
studying and doing assignments. This totals 36 hours. Begin adding your hours:
Number of credit hours (# of hours in class/week) _________ hrs a week
Studying (2x # of credit hours; 4x to 6x in summer) _________ hrs a week
Once you begin classes this semester, you will spend time on a variety of other activities
during your week. For the list of activities below write the number of hours per week you
will spend on each activity:
Activity
Maintenance
(personal, home care, laundry, cleaning)
Commuting
Eating (3 meals x 7 days)
Sleeping (8 hrs a night….yours may be less)
Working at a job
Exercising / sports
Relationships (family, friends, significant other)
Leisure time (listening to music, TV, etc…)

_________ Grand Total
(hours I spend each week)
168 – Grand Total __________
(these are your left over hours)
How many hours did you have left over? Or are you over the 168 hours in a week?
A rule of thumb…
• One course requires time like a hobby
• Two courses require a definite adjustment to your schedule
• Three courses require a definite commitment. If you have a family and / or
a full-time job, start with two classes (only one in the summer). You can
build / add later.
What did you discover? If needed, how can you adjust your time? You might also
monitor all your time for a week so you can become conscious about how you spend your
time.
