The following information is provided to you to ensure your participation in Leading Sustainability is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Please review the following information. The Leading Sustainability program is held on the SUNY ESF Campus. The address of the campus is 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210 Dates. All sessions, with the exception of the evening session of Oct. 14th, will be held in 408 Baker Laboratory on the SUNY ESF campus. The Oct. 14th class will be held in 213 Marshall Hall. You will need to park your vehicle in the Irving Parking garage, which can be accessed from Stadium Place, Syracuse, NY, 13210. Please tell the booth attendant that you are parking for a SUNY ESF program. We will be serving breakfast and lunch, with vegetarian options provided. We will provide you with a folder, note paper, and necessary handouts from class. All class material will also be posted on the course website. Course website. All course handouts and materials will be uploaded to the course website and available to you throughout the duration of the class. The course website is referred to as “Blackboard”. You will be receiving log-in and password information from SU services by the beginning of the course in order to access the Blackboard site. If you do not receive a log-in and password by the start of the class, please let me know and I will make sure you get one. Please use the following steps to access Blackboard: Accessing the course website: 1. Once you have received your ID and password email you can access your online course through the Blackboard website http://blackboard.syr.edu/ 2. Enter your ID in the Username field. 3. Enter your password in the password field. 4. Click the LOGIN button. 5. Locate the MY COURSES box in the middle of the screen. A course link for each course in which you are enrolled displays in the MY COURSES box. 6. Click on the course link in the MY COURSES box to enter the course. (NOTE: Your course(s) will be listed as "unavailable" until your instructor opens it for student access). As long as you can see the course listed under “MY COURSES”, you are in good shape. 7. Once you have opened the course website on blackboard, there should be a number of folders and topics in the left hand navigation. Please navigate through these folders to familiarize yourself with the content and what is included where on the course website. 8. If after completing the following steps you still have questions, please contact the project manager at vwilliams@esf.edu or 315-470-6818. Webinars and facilitated sessions. Thursday October 7, 14 and 21 will be our evening webinars and facilitated sessions. Participants will have the option to attend these sessions on-campus or from a remote location. In order to access these sessions remotely, you will need internet access, speakers, and a microphone for these sessions. To ensure you will be able to hear the instructors, interact with the class, and access the webinars, please complete the following: 1. Do a test-run of the webinar software. Click on the following link, and sign in as a guest: https://webconference.syr.edu/testerls/ SUNY ESF’s Leading Sustainability Page 2 of 3 After signing in as guest, if you are able to access a screen with the top right corner titled Leading Sustainability Tester session (on this page there are multiple boxes titled camera and voice, attendee list, whiteboard, etc.), then you were able to successfully connect. 2. Set-up and test your microphone (see instructions below) Setting up your microphone 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. On your Start menu, go to All Programs >> Accessories >> Entertainment >> Volume Control. If your microphone balance and volume function does not appear on this screen, go to the Options menu and select Properties. Scroll down the Show the following volume controls list until you see the Microphone box, select it, and click Ok. Turn the microphone volume to half way; you can re-adjust this later, if desired. Make sure that the Mute box under Microphone is not selected, and that the Mute all box is not selected. From the Options menu, select Properties. Select the Recording circle from the Adjust volume for list, and click Ok. Make sure that the Select box under Microphone is selected. Testing your microphone On your Start menu, go to All Programs >> Accessories >> Entertainment >> Sound Recorder. 2. Press the Record button (round circle to the right), and speak into your microphone then the Stop button (rectangular square to the left of the Record button) after a few seconds. 3. Press the Play button (single arrow in the center) to play back your recording. 1.
