In November 2013, the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment ran a list of students that had
been enrolled at Metropolitan Community College during spring 2013 and did not return by census date
in fall 2013. This list was sent to the National Student Clearinghouse to determine if the students has
enrolled at a different institution. The list was returned on November 18, 2013, and the results are
listed below.
Overall, there were 9,407 students that did not return to MCC in fall 2013. Of this number, 1,125 were
graduates. There were 8,282 students without a degree that did not return to MCC. This included 1,927
that transferred without completing their degree at MCC, 95 that started fall 2013 at MCC and withdrew
and 6,260 were stop outs. Stop outs are students that are not enrolled at any institution the
subsequent semester.

There were 1,125 students enrolled at MCC in spring 2013 that graduated from MCC in spring 2013 and
summer 2013. Of these graduates, 691 (61%) did not transfer to another institution after graduation
and 434 (39%) of the students did enroll at another institution in fall 2013.

UMKC
Of the 434 graduates from spring and summer 2013 that transferred, 120 (28%) transferred to UMKC in
fall 2012. This is down from 33% that transferred in fall 2012. This included 13 from Blue River, 2 from
Business & Technology, 47 from Longview, 27 Maple Woods, and 31 from Penn Valley. The gender
distribution - 74 were female (62%) and 48 were male (38%). The average age was 25.13 and the
average GPA was 3.17. Also, 68 received a Pell Grant in spring 2013 (57%), 20 received A+ and 106 were
in district residents. Finally, 75 (63%) were Caucasian and 45 (37%) were non-white.

UCM
For University of Central Missouri, there were 110 (25%) students who graduated from MCC and
transferred to UCM in fall 2013. This is up from 20% in 2012. The students included 34 from Blue River,
3 from BTC, 51 from Longview, 11 from Maple Woods, and 11 from Penn Valley. Of this group, 97
earned Associate in Arts degrees of which 5 Criminal Justice, 4 Business and 11 Teaching. There were 11
AAS degrees: 7 Professional Nursing, 1 Auto, 1 EHSS, 1 ETEC, and 1 INTE. There were 2 certificates
which included 1 in Fire and 1 in CISCO. In the gender distribution, 72 were female (65%) and 38 were
male (35%). The average age was 23.8 and the average GPA was 3.08. Also, 31 received a Pell Grant in
spring 2013 (28%), 42 were A+ and 88 were in district residents. Finally, 90 (82%) were Caucasian and
20 (18%) were non-white.
Park
Park University had 45 students who graduated from MCC and transferred in fall 2013. Two were from
Blue River, 1 from Business and Technology, 3 from Longview, 33 from Maple Woods, and 6 from Penn
Valley. Of this group, 37 earned Associate in Arts degrees (1 Business and 4 Teaching) and 1 Associate
Science in Biology. There was AAS degrees in 1 CSIS and 1 Paralegal Practice. There were 4 certificates
(3 Practical Nursing and 1 Cisco). For gender, 33 were female (73%) and 12 were male (27%). The
average age was 24.1 and the average GPA was 2.98. Also, 18 received a Pell Grant in spring 201, 4

received A+ and 36 were in district residents. Finally, 34 (76%) were Caucasian and 11 (24%) were nonwhite.
Missouri Western
Missouri Western University had 33 (8%) students who graduated from MCC and enrolled in fall 2013.
This is up from 5% last year. Of these, 1 was from Blue River, 1 from Business and Technology, 2 were
from Longview, 25 from Maple Woods, and 4 from Penn Valley. Of this group, 30 earned Associate in
Arts degrees (14 of these were in Teaching and 1 in Business), and 3 AAS (2 HIT and 1 INTE). The gender
distribution had 22 were female (67%) and 11 were male (33%). The average age was 26.7 and the
average GPA was 3.27. Also, 17 received a Pell Grant in spring 2013, 10 received A+ and 21 were in
district residents. Finally, 32 (97%) were Caucasian and 1 (3%) were non-white.
Missouri State
Missouri State University had 18 students who graduated from MCC and enrolled in fall 2013. Of these,
1 were from Blue River, 7 were from Longview, 9 from Maple Woods, and 1 from Penn Valley. Of this
group, all 18 earned Associate in Arts degrees. The gender distribution had 9 were female (50%) and 9
was male (50%). The average age was 20.39 and the average GPA was 3.09. Also, 4 received a Pell
Grant in spring 2013, 12 received A+ and 13 were in district residents. Finally, 13 (72%) were Caucasian
and 5 (28%) were non-white.
Northwest Missouri State
Northwest Missouri State University had 17 students who graduated from MCC and enrolled in fall 2013.
Of these, 1 were from Blue River, 4 were from Longview, 10 from Maple Woods, and 2 from Penn Valley.
Of this group, all 17 earned Associate in Arts degrees. The gender distribution had 11 were female
(65%) and 6 was male (35%). The average age was 21.65 and the average GPA was 2.97. Also, 5
received a Pell Grant in spring 2013, 4 received A+ and 13 were in district residents. Finally, 13 (76%)
were Caucasian and 4 (24%) were non-white.
MU
University of Missouri - Columbia had 14 students who graduated from MCC and enrolled in fall 2013. Of
these, 1 were from Blue River, 7 were from Longview, 5 from Maple Woods, and 1 from Penn Valley. Of
this group, 11 earned Associate in Arts degrees and 3 Associate in Engineering. The gender distribution
had 5 were female (36%) and 9 were male (64%). The average age was 21.07 and the average GPA was
3.30. Also, 3 received a Pell Grant in spring 2013, 5 received A+ and 12 were in district. Finally, 13 (93%)
were Caucasian and 1 (7%) was non-white.

Transfers
There were 1,927 students that transferred to a different institution without completing a degree at
MCC. The highest number went to UMKC at 367 students followed by UCM 228 students, University of
Missouri – Columbia 141 students, Missouri State 89, JCCC 78 students, Park 77 students, Northwest
Missouri State 74 students, Missouri Western 71 students, Graceland 55 students and Rockhurst 54.
In Spring 2012, the order was UMKC at 371 students followed by UCM 217 students, University of
Missouri – Columbia 139 students, Park 90 students, JCCC 88 students, Missouri State 81, Missouri
Western 71 students, Northwest Missouri State 63 students, Avila 55 students, and Graceland 53
students.

There were 6,260 students that stopped attending MCC in spring 2013 and did not graduate or attend a
different institution. Of this group, 3,567 (57%) were female and 2,693 (43%) were male. In the Spring
2012, 3,404 (58%) were female and 2,447 (42%) were male. The average age was 27 (26 in Spring 2012)
and average cumulative GPA was 2.46 (2.22 in Spring 2012). Sixty-one percent (3,824) students were

Next Steps
In spring 2014, the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment will send another list to the National
Student Clearinghouse to determine which students that were enrolled in fall 2013 did not return spring
2013. The Stop Out and Transfer Report will be completed every regular semester to track where MCC
students attend after leaving MCC. Also, note that this research does not track students that are taking
classes simultaneously at MCC and at another institution.
