University of Missouri Bachelor of Science in Nursing Transfer Guide for Metropolitan Community College This plan is intended only as a general guide based on requirements in the 2013-2014 University of Missouri undergraduate catalog. Check the following web sites for current course descriptions, prerequisites, course equivalencies and other specific details about the nursing degree: 1) College Catalog (http://registrar.missouri.edu) 2) Transfer Equivalencies (http://transfercourses.missouri.edu or http://transfer.org) 3) General Education (http://generaleducation.missouri.edu) 4) Sinclair School of Nursing (http://nursing.missouri.edu/) Admission to the Clinical Nursing Major - Transfer students should apply for admission to the University as pre-nursing and then apply to the clinical nursing program typically the 2nd semester of their sophomore year. It is recommended that transfer students come to Mizzou in the Fall semester due to Nursing 2000 pre-requisite only being offered in the Fall semester or as soon as possible if they wish to complete the BSN program in four years. The clinical application deadlines are February 1 for Fall clinical admission and September 1 for Spring clinical admission. You must be a student at MU at least one semester to apply to the clinical major due to the fact that the nursing program has specific courses that can only be taken at MU to apply. Applicants for the clinical major are considered on a competitive and space-available basis for each admission period. Fifty-five students are accepted into clinical coursework for the Spring Semester and 75 for the Fall semester. Usually, 80-160 apply for the available spaces. Clinical application criteria include: Successful completion of approximately 45 credit hours and in progress with the remaining 15 hours of general education and prenursing coursework according to the requirements outlined below. A student must also have successful grades (C or better) in biology, chemistry, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, Nursing 2000 and Nursing 2100 to be eligible to apply for the clinical nursing major. It is recommended that students take as many sciences at MU as possible. Semesters 1-4 below must be completed prior to clinical coursework. Minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all college/university courses; Competitive grade-point average in nursing prerequisite courses; and Evidence of capacity to uphold the practice standards, functional abilities, and ethical codes of the nursing profession.
