This plan is intended only as a general guide based on requirements in the 2012-2014, Version A, University of Missouri

Elementary Education Requirements Automatically Satisfied with the Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT)
 English 1000 (College Composition)
 Math 1100 (College Algebra)
 Lower-Level Writing Intensive
 Biological and Physical Science
 Social and/or Behavioral science (must include a course in economics, geography, and one of political science
1100, history 1100 or 1200.)
 Math Reasoning Proficiency
 Humanities (must include Public Speaking and an Art or Non-Applied Music)
 Intermediate Level General Education
 Phase I courses are automatically completed with an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) from a Missouri
school. Students transferring without an AAT should contact the College of Education to discuss their Phase I
course options.
Admission to Phase II of Elementary Education - Application and admission to Phase II is required. Students must be
admitted to Phase II prior to beginning the fall semester coursework, and should contact the MU College of Education
early in the calendar year to begin the application process.
Admission into the upper level Elementary Education program is competitive; students must meet the minimum
requirements outlined below to be considered, but that does not guarantee admission.
 Phase 1 Courses (LTC 1100, ESC PS 2010, ESC PS 2014, LTC 2040, and LTC 2044). An “S” or “C” grade or higher
is required for each course.
 Communication 1200 with a grade of C- or higher or a passing score on the Principles of Public Speaking DSST
exam
 English 1000 with a C- grade or higher
 Math 1100 with a C- grade or higher
 STAT 1200 with a C- grade or higher or equivalent
 Music Proficiency (fulfilled with Music Proficiency exam or completion of MUSIC 1608, 1612, or 1618) or
equivalent
 Overall GPA of 2.750 or higher (this includes grades from all colleges and universities attended)
 MU GPA of Records of 2.750 or higher (The UM GPA is not required before a student attends MU)
 Successful completion of appropriate Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments (MEGA)
 Possession of characteristics associated with effective performance in a professional role at level and major
selected.
