All the children in town wondered where their parents had disappeared to. They all went to school as usual but all the schools were closed. All the shops were closed and no traffic could be seen on the roads. Then they discovered that even the electricity, gas and telephones were disconnected. They cried and searched for their parents everywhere. At last they assembled at the Town Hall. There they found a note on the main gate of the Town Hall. A boy read the note aloud. It said ‘Unfortunate children, you will be pleased to know that we have left the town because we were fed up with your behaviour. Now nobody will compel you to get up early, take a bath, go to school or stop you from misbehaving. We have accepted defeat. Eat what you like and be merry. From now on it is your responsibility to pay the bills and cook your food. Don’t waste your time looking for us because we cannot be traced. We want you to realise that parents do quite a lot for you other than simply admonishing you. Please accept our love.’ After the reading of this note all the children burst into tears.
