DUAL LEVEL ENROLLMENT STATEMENT AT THE MASTER'S/Ed.S. LEVEL Graduate School University of Wisconsin-Stout I wish to apply for admission to the Graduate School to take graduate work as a dual level student before graduating from the master's degree program in which I am now enrolled. I understand that my dual level status may impact my financial aid eligibility. I also understand that the total maximum credit load I may carry (counting all credits carried in either degree program) is 16 credits per semester and one credit per week of attendance during the summer session. I understand that I must complete the courses listed below to earn the master's degree in which I am now enrolled. I further understand that if I do not complete this master's degree (this includes the research paper) by the date listed I will be dropped from the Ed.S. program to which I am now applying. Program Advisor Signature Date MASTER’S/Ed.S. DUAL LEVEL ENROLLMENT STATUS What is it? A special privilege to take one or more courses toward the Education Specialist degree during the last enrollment term of your master’s degree work if you otherwise qualify for admission to the Education Specialist program. Dual level students are eligible only as program students and the total credits carried at the two levels cannot exceed 16 for the semester (or one credit per week if for summer session). Who may apply? UW-Stout master’s degree candidates who will graduate at the end of the semester for which they apply for dual level status. Student’s may not be admitted on probation, provisional, or trial status. How can I apply? You will need to complete both pages of the application for admission available in the Graduate School office; and submit the signed Dual Level Enrollment Statement (see reverse side), a resume, and two letters of recommendation. Both your master’s and Ed.S. program director will need to work with you in planning the semester’s work. You will not be permitted to register for any courses to apply toward the Ed.S. program until your application for admission to the Graduate School has been processed. Why is it useful? It allows students to make efficient use of the university if they have less than a full semester of work remaining toward the master’s degree. Students have an opportunity to “try on” Ed.S. level studies to see how well this kind of work fits their needs, without committing a full semester of time and resources to do so. Are any problems likely to occur? You will need to remember that changes in your course load – “drop/adds” will need to be discussed with, and approved by, the program directors at both degree levels. Enrolles not receiving the master’s degree at the end of the dual enrollment term would be prevented from taking any further Ed.S. courses until you do graduate - at which time you would have to re-apply for admission to the Ed.S. If you apply for financial aid the amount you receive may be affected by your dual level status. Check with the Financial Aid Office. Time Limit? All credits toward your master’s or Ed.S. degree, including transfer credits, must be completed within the seven years prior to the awarding degree.
