CMGT 497 – Social Responsibility in Construction Management Belize Service Learning Project, Spring 2012 Initial Scope The Department of Construction Management, in collaboration with Peacework, selects the village of Bella Vista, for its 2012 Belize Service Learning Project Site. Bella Vista, with an approximate population of 4,000 people, is located within the Banana Belt of Belize on the border of Stann Creek and Toledo Districts. The community offers numerous opportunities for service learning projects. The lack of sufficient resources and infrastructure in Bella Vista the village school provides a unique learning experience that combines engineering and construction with social and cultural implications. The school project provides a variety of opportunities for ‘hands-on’ engagement. These will include: planning and constructing selected projects additional renovation projects at the school as needed developing and delivering associated training We will also undertake the broader project to develop a master plan for village infrastructure that will instruct future service projects. Bella Vista sitework is Time: m/w/f - 12:40-1:30 March 24-31. Room: ENGR313 Note: this course will include a 1 week onsite service project in Bella Vista, Belize.
