Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk
College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-
DCOM) is offering a three-week intensive anatomy course to incoming osteopathic medical students. The course is designed for incoming first-year osteopathic medical students who wish to start learning Gross
Anatomy prior to the start of school. During the three-week course, students will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. with a test over the previous day’s material. Each test is cumulative to encourage longterm mastery of medical gross anatomy. Course material will be presented through small group discussions and time in the LMU-DCOM anatomy lab. There will be a heavy emphasis on the clinical aspects of anatomy so that the student can equate various physical signs and symptoms with anatomical pathology. The class day concludes at 4 p.m. each day.
The course is taught by Dr. Jonathan Leo , professor of neuroanatomy and associate dean of students at LMU-DCOM; and Dr. Natalie
Shirley , associate professor of anatomy. Leo has served as a Kaplan lecturer for the past
10 years. Shirley received her PhD from the
University of Tennessee in Knoxville as a student of Dr. Richard Jantz, director emeritus of the Forensic Anthropology Center.
“The purpose of the course is to make the student’s life easier in medical school.
In addition to gaining early exposure to medical gross anatomy the student will also learn the study skills necessary to excel in medical school.”
−Dr. Jonathan Leo,
Professor of Neuroanatomy
The course is limited to the first 80 applicants from the incoming osteopathic medical students first-year class or MS students in anatomical sciences or biomedical professions.
A $50 non-refundable deposit must be included with the application. Campus housing will be available during the course period. The

Week Two: Thorax and Abdomen
Week Three: Head and Neck, with an emphasis on the cranial nerves and the skull
On the final day of the course there will be a medical school level laboratory practical exam.
