61 – CRUISER TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION STANDARDS
All requirements in the FSH 2409.12, Timber Cruising Handbook, must be adhered to if
contract cruising or cruising with TEAMS. A responsible cruiser must be named in the
cruise plan. The contract cruiser/consultant must cruise the permanent plots located on
your Forest (or adjacent to) to ensure species identification and measurements are
satisfactory. In addition, all contract and TEAMS cruises must be check cruised prior to
sale offer. If the contract or TEAMS cruiser has not been actively cruising in the Region
for two years, they will be required to cruise the permanent plots again.

4. The minimum passing score for the written examination is 80 percent.
61.2 - Advanced Cruiser
3. The minimum passing score on the written Advanced Cruiser test is 80
percent.
61.5 – Maintenance of Certification
1. To be considered active, the cruiser must either cruise a timber sale or the
permanent test plots located on their Forest. Advanced Cruisers where certification is
limited to cruise design must have a minimum of one satisfactory check on a cruise
design per year to maintain certification.
The Regional Office will send courtesy letters to the Forests no later than September 30
listing cruisers needing check cruises prior to the end of the calendar year. Forest
Check Cruisers must ensure all check cruises for the calendar year are submitted to the
Regional Office no later than January 30 of each year.
The Regional Office will send certification status letters to all Forests no later than
February 15 listing the cruisers who have maintained their certification. Cruisers without
a satisfactory check cruise will be dropped. They must cruise the permanent plots on
their Forest to be recertified to production cruise. Advanced Cruisers writing designs
only must attend the Cruise Design Refresher Training to get recertified.
The National Measurements Database will be maintained by the Regional Office.
62 - INSPECTING INDIVIDUAL CRUISER PERFORMANCE
