PNF SUPPLEMENT: 6600-89-2 EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1989 DURATION: This supplement is effective until superseded or removed. 6602, 6604 Page 2 of 3 FSM 6600 – SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT 6602 - Objective In order to meet Washington Office and Regional Office standards for software management, the Forest is implementing a software policy to guide the Forest Management Team in meeting the Forest mission. The long term goal is for the Forest Management Team to review all software which is released to the Forest for need, cost/benefit, and efficiency in accomplishing our goals. 6604 - Responsibilities a. Forest Information will be managed in the Information Management Architecture. I.E. PUBLIC, STAFF, and Personal. Structure naming conventions will follow recommended guidelines in FSM 6622.13c. b. The Forest Computer Specialist will ensure that Data General software is implemented and provide operational support to Forest users. c. The Forest Computer Specialist will assist District personnel with System Software updates and provide guidance to assure their learning procedures necessary. Software will be loaded in accordance to Regional guidelines in FSM 6620, Interim Directive No. 5; software deemed mandatory will be loaded by appropriate dates. d. The Forest Information Management Section will coordinate unit technical approvals in compliance with and according to procedures outlined in FSM 6610. Microcomputer software will follow these guidelines until the Regional Microcomputer Draft Policy is in place. Technical Approvals will follow the guidelines in FSH 6609.12. The Forest Computer Specialist will concur on all software/hardware requests before concurrence by the Forest Supervisor. Upgrades to current software that was previously approved need not go through the technical approval process again. A justification statement must be placed with the requisition. Any future software purchased on the Prescott Forest will first have the attached form signed by Information Systems and the Forest Supervisor.
