Chapter 2270 – Information Management And Reports
2271 – Forest Service Range Management Information System
2271.1 – Forest Service Range Management Information System Applications
Rangeland INFRA, NRIS, and FACTS are the required databases of official record for
Rangeland Management, all of which are accessed through the NRM (Natural Resource
Manager) web site. NRM has project management and development responsibility for many
Forest Service national applications. Each application supports different range business
functions. Rangeland INFRA is the primary application for all general range business. FACTS
is the application for range vegetation improvement project records, and NRIS is the application
for all noxious and invasive weeds project records. These databases have been developed to
facilitate the collection and housing of rangeland information in order to provide reliable data for
annual reports, permittee information, allotment management status and other range business
related matters.
All data is stored at a data center in Kansas City, MO. Currently there are no directions in Forest
Service manuals or handbooks to support the application processes; however, there are many
quick guides and tutorials on the web site (http://fsweb.nrm.fs.fed.us/) to provide training and
direction for each application. All applications mentioned are web-based.
It is national direction to follow and use these applications, and Region 3 will comply and use
them in accordance with the national standard. Therefore all range business, including billings
will utilize these applications to conduct daily functions.
