In the Forest Supervisors' Offices, Public Information Officers or others designated by the Forest Supervisors or the Deputy Forest Supervisor shall serve as Forest Audiovisual Coordinators. 1641 - AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS All audiovisual productions must be evaluated by the Regional Audiovisual Coordinator prior to production. 1642 - STILL PHOTOGRAPHY The Audiovisual Specialist in the Public Affairs Office is designated as the Regional Photographic Coordinator. (See FSM 7140 for R-10 policy covering aerial photography.) Before approving requests for replacement of equipment, the Regional Photographic Coordinator will consult with the Regional Property Officer to ensure that all property control procedures for existing photographic equipment are in order. Forest Supervisors, Deputy Forest Supervisor, or Staff Directors may designate Photographic Coordinators for their Units to ensure proper distribution and use of equipment within the Unit. Purchase of all photographic equipment must be approved. 1. If the photographic equipment is on an existing IRM contract, the Regional Photographic Coordinator must approve the purchase. Regional approval for photographic equipment will be based on the following criteria for each major item requested for approval. a. The equipment must be suitable for doing the needed photographic work of the requesting office. b. The equipment must be compatible with regional and national equipment standards in effect at the time of purchase. For example, standard film formats, such as 35mm, or digital should conform to regional and national standards. Requests for video recorder/players would be considered only when those systems become compatible with other regional and national equipment. c. Property control procedures must be observed. If the photographic equipment is not on an existing IRM contract, then an approval is needed from the Regional Photographic Coordinator and a technical approval is needed from IRM. IRM approval for photographic equipment will be based on the following criteria. Requesting units should submit a technical approval covering these criteria for each major item requested for approval. a. The camera being requested has features not available on a contract provided camera. b. The software required to download photos is compatible with the Forest Service computer environment. Government cameras, photo equipment, film or processing services must be used for official business only. This also applies to photographs taken with personal cameras while on duty and using government film or processing services. Government film, including partly exposed rolls, shall not be used for personal photographs. 1643 - EXHIBITS AND DISPLAYS 1. Controls. The Visual Information Specialist in the Public Affairs Office shall serve as the Exhibits Coordinator in the Alaska Region to help maintain high standards of quality. 2. Exhibits Authorized by Field Offices. Forest offices and staff units may prepare and display exhibits at meetings, conventions, and other similar occasions of similar nature that occur only in the Alaska Region. This includes in-house exhibits at any Forest Service facility in Alaska. To avoid duplication of efforts, the Exhibits Coordinator shall be notified during the planning state when exhibit work begins.
