Corporate Governance
in the Wake of the Financial Crisis:
Linking Governance, Strategy and Sustainability
A Conference on the Role of the Accountancy Profession
Room XXVI, Palais des Nations, Geneva, 12 October, 2010
In the wake of the financial crisis, the pace of rulemaking in the area of
corporate governance and disclosure has increased dramatically, largely driven by
responses to the financial crisis. Now, more than ever, there is a new appreciation for
the need to align governance with long term business strategy, economic stability and
environmental sustainability. What role does the accounting profession play?
Participants at the 12 October conference will address the critical link between
corporate governance and the accountancy profession. The conference will contain a
series of expert panels and interactive discussions that aim to address several
questions:
o What lessons has the global financial crisis revealed about
corporate governance?
o What lessons can be learned from recent national reforms? Has a
best practice emerged for other countries to emulate?
o
What corporate governance reforms should be developed on a
global level and why?
o With whom should the accounting profession partner to achieve
lasting results?
Programme as of 4 October
