COMMENCEMENT - MAY 22, 2009
11:00 AM
INSTRUCTIONS TO FACULTY
Note: For those who have a specific role in the ceremony (e.g. Ph.D. or DNP advisor, faculty/director marshal,
student marshals, vocalist, etc.), please disregard these instructions and follow those emailed directly to you
from Andrea Cordova.
If you ordered cap and gown rentals, they may be picked up on Tuesday, May 19, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. in
University Center, room 116.
Parking at the World Arena is open (free). Please arrive at the “Faculty/Directors Room” no later than
10:30 a.m.*
Enter the building through “Gate A” as indicated on the attached map. Proceed around the concourse to the
right until you get to Sections 117/118 and take an immediate right to the elevator. Proceed down to the
service level. When you get off the elevator, go straight ahead to the main service-level hallway. The
“Faculty/Directors Room” is immediately to your right, then across the hallway (on the left side).
You can change into your cap and gown in the “Faculty/Directors Room.” Light refreshments will be
available beginning at 9:30 a.m. You may leave your personal belongings in the room as it will be secured
during the ceremony.
*The Chancellor encourages faculty to arrive early to join her in walking through the student line-up
corridor to greet/congratulate graduates – between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m.
The faculty and directors will proceed from the “Faculty/Directors Room” to the Commencement stage around
11:10 a.m., following the student lines. Jackie Berning is this year’s Faculty/Directors Marshal. She will line
you up and tell you when to proceed, faculty followed by directors.
If you would like to shake students’ hands during the ceremony, you may come forward at any time as
students cross the stage. Stand between the Chancellor (right side) or President (left side) and the center
podium as to not block photographers.
Bottled water is available in a tub of ice at the rear of the stage for anyone who is interested.
After Commencement you will recess back to the “Faculty/Directors Room.” Those sitting on the right side of
the stage will exit on the right side, those sitting on the left side of the stage will exit on the left side; upon
entering the service level corridor, proceed left down the hallway. You are welcome to re-enter the arena
floor to mingle with students and their families once the stage recessional is finished.
If applicable, please turn in your rented cap and gown as indicated on map by the “Gate A” Entrance (outside).
If you need Reserved Seating tickets for any guests, please call Andrea Cordova at x3436. Please be sure to
let guests know they should be seated at 10:45 a.m. Vacant seats in the Reserved Seating section will be open
to the general public once the ceremony begins.
