The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2007. The department offers a two year M. Sc., Degree Course in Biotechnology. Doctoral programme leading to Ph.D. is also being offered at the department. The department is undertaking research projects and has attracted funds from various agencies such as DBT, DST, CSIR and UGC. The State Biotech Hub Facility was established by the DBT, New Delhi in the year 2011 and has state of art facility for research and teaching. The significant contribution of the State Biotech Hub, Mizoram University is especially through funding and providing cutting edge equipments for research which has helped diverse research projects on areas like microbial, plant, animal and human. Free access is provided to any researcher or student form within the state of Mizoram and neighbouring states for carrying out their research efficiently. Mizoram falls under the ‘Eastern Himalayas’ & Aizawl is the state capital. It is situated at an altitude of 900 meters 2 above sea level.
