About the Training Course: The Gene Ontology (GO) aims to capture the increasing knowledge on gene function in a controlled vocabulary applicable to all the organisms and describes gene products in terms of their associated biological processes, cellular components and molecular functions. The terms being hierarchical in relationship, representation is complex. Cytoscape, an open source software platform, takes advantage of its complex visualization environment to visualize molecular interaction networks and biological pathways and integrating these networks with annotations, gene expression profiles and other state data. Topics include: Training Course on Gene Ontology and Cytoscape 19-20 June 2015 Organized by NCBI Gene, UniProtKB, Finding right gene and papers to annotate, Steps to GO annotation and Visualizing molecular interaction networks and biological pathways and integration with annotation using Cytoscape. Level of Participants: Academicians / Scientists and Research Scholars working or desirous of working in the area of Biotechnology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and various other branches of Sciences are invited to attend the training course. Madhan Mohan Advisor to Govt. of India, DBT, New Delhi The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2007. The department offers a two year M. Sc., Degree Course in Biotechnology. Doctoral programme leading to Ph.D. is also being offered at the department. The department is undertaking research projects and has attracted funds from various agencies such as DBT, DST, CSIR and UGC. Chairman: The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) was established by the DBT, Government of India in the year 2008 and the facility is housed in the Dept. of Biotechnology of the Mizoram University. This facility has high/medium end servers and state of the art desktop machines and softwares. Organizing Secretary: Mizoram falls under the ‘Eastern Himalayas’ & Aizawl is the state capital. It is situated at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. The importance of this region at the global stage can be vouched from the fact that the region lies within the Indo-Burma mega diversity hotspot. The total area of Mizoram is 21,087 km2, the majority of it being forest cover. Temperature varies from 18 to 29˚ C in summer and from 11 to 240 C in winter. How to reach Aizawl: AIR: Lengpui airport is approx. 40 kms from Aizawl city and is connected by flights from Kolkata and Guwahati. ROAD: Aizawl is connected by NH 54.
