I. Overview of Lab and Recitation
1. Recitation: Answer questions/Give quizzes (based on previous lab's Maplet schedule).
2. Labs: Maplets and Matlab assignments. Schedule and deadlines posted.
3. 151: 1 st day Recitation, 2 nd day Lab; 152: 1 st day Lab, 2 nd day Recitation
II.
First Week (*Monday labsencourage students to do on own in Open Hours)
1. Student cannot log in: a) netid lowercase b) check for enrollment ( id NetID in terminal)
2. Setup Instructions: NO hard copies. Follow these steps for online instructions: a) Go to www.math.tamu.edu/courses/math151 (or 152 as applicable) b) Encourage you to bookmark this page or make it your homepage for easy access. c) Click on “Lab Schedule” d) Click on “Written Instructions” under MATLAB Setup
3. Students fill out the PreSemester Survey under this week's assignment.
4. Demonstrate 12 of the required Maplets for the week (#4, 15, 16, 25 for 151,
#8385, 99, 100 for 152) and you work on others the remaining time.
5. Students with an underscore (_) in their NetID may not be able to run Maplets automatically. Workaround: a) Rightclick “Save Link As...” (pay attention to what directory it goes in!) b) Run Maple (Click the Maple leaf icon once) and Open the file (“Files of type”=.maplet) c) Execute the Worksheet by pressing the !!! button at the top of Maple

Calclab Information
1. Students: Accessing Maplets outside of lab (Open Hours, OAL, NX, VOAL)
2. Keeping the Calclabs secure
a) Arrive at least 5 minutes early to class (this is good pedagogical practice
in general. 10 minutes early on deadline days is even better)
IV.
First MATLAB assignment
1. Week of Jan 2630
2. Form teams of 34 for Matlab assignments. Options: a) Form in advance from rosters b) Form in lab based on proximity c) Let students choose teams (all teams must have 34 students)
3. The week after Exam I and II, you may want to allow students to rearrange teams due to attrition
V.
How to Instruct You in MATLAB each week
1. Each Friday, I will email the strategies of the next week’s lab to you for reading. Strategies will include page numbers for students to refer to in Gilat manual for code and how to approach each problem.
2, I WILL NOT just give the assignment and set you to work! I will Give (at minimum) the outline At the same time, I WILL NOT give students the code for
any of the assigned problems! Also strongly encourage you to work during lab so you can ask me questions if you have any.

Issues During the Semester
1. How to submit assignments: publish('filename.m','pdf')* puts the student's
M file, output, and graphs in ONE pdf file. This is the file which is to be printed (convert to postscript if using xprint ) and submitted.
*NOTE: There is a “Publish” tab, but students must change default from html to pdf
*ALSO NOTE: Students must run ID through the xprint reader in the OAL to collect printout
2. Group problems (slackers): when students are grouped, STRONGLY encourage you to put your assignment together the night before deadline!
Students must initial the problems they worked on, so IF groups do this, only the slackers' grades are hurt.
3. “Over Quota” login issues (generally start occurring around Lab 5 or 6)
