Duties/Responsibilities: Develop individual strength training programs for each interested participant including: o Conduct an initial general fitness assessment before beginning the program, and then every 6-12 weeks for Weight Room Participants o Assist resident participants in goal-setting o Monitor & record the progress of participants Organize and implement weekly, short educational presentations for residents relating to fitness, health, and wellness topics of interest to them Establish contacts and complete a variety of community educational presentations based on requests from community agencies/community centres Compile quarterly reports to evaluate programs and make recommendations Meet with Wellness & Vitality Coordinator on a regular basis to provide updates and discuss concerns relating to programs and residents Organize & lead walking programs and bus outings to indoor and outdoor venues Update fitness schedule and create posters to promote programs Other related duties, such as writing articles for the newsletter Requirements/Qualifications: Enrollment in a post secondary Kinesiology program is mandatory to qualify Completion of BCRPA Weight Training Module and BCRPA Third Age Module is very strongly recommended; completion of BCRPA Exercise to Music is an asset Recent related experience in fitness instruction, weight training instruction, and/or working with seniors is preferred Flexible, cheerful, and service-oriented individuals preferred with well-groomed appearance, good hygiene and fitness level Ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities, and work independently Ability to communicate (verbal, nonverbal, written) in a positive, tactful, caring manner Current first aid & CPR training (or willingness to obtain early in placement) is mandatory
