Unique Landscape Features
Trapper Creek Wilderness protects nearly all of the Trapper Creek drainage and
provides the only pristine anadromous fish habitat in the Wind River watershed.
Sparkling streams and waterfalls grace steeply dissected canyons of heavy timber.
Spotted owls, pileated woodpeckers and goshawks enjoy the tall, old-growth
Douglas-fir forests that comprise the heart of this wilderness. Soda Peaks Lake, the
area's single body of water, gleams from a cirque below Soda Peaks in the southwest
corner. Observation Peak, the site of a former fire lookout, offers sweeping views of
Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, and Mount Hood.

Fauna Priority: Medium
Fauna Receptor: Fish
Fauna Indicator: Concentration of methyl mercury
Fauna Trends: Not reported in the database.
Fauna Actions:
Consider sampling resident fish for mercury from most frequently fished lakes (people and wildlife). While on-site, collect
water quality samples.

Flora Trends 2: Not reported in the database.
Flora Priority 3: Medium
Flora Receptor 3: Ozone
Flora Indicator 3: Visible injury on ozone-sensitive plants
Flora Trends 3: Not reported in the database.
Flora Actions:
Repeat visits to lichen plots once every 10 years. Waiting for previously-collected lichen to be evaluated for trends.
Consider, while on-site, also sampling vegetation for injury from ozone.
