No make-up exams or assignments are possible without a Universityapproved excused absence (see the Texas A&M University Student Rules). An absence for a non-acute medical service or regular check-up does not constitute an excused absence. To be excused, you must notify me in writing prior to the date of absence if possible. Consistent with Texas A&M Student Rules, in cases where advance notification is not feasible (e.g. accident, or emergency) the student must provide notification by the end of the second working day after the absence, i.e. within about 48 hours. For injury or illness too severe or contagious to attend class, you must provide confirmation of a visit to a health care professional affirming date and time of visit. The Texas A&M University Explanatory Statement for Absence from Class form will not be accepted. It is the student's responsibility to schedule a make-up. Any assignments given on the day(s) missed will still be due according to the regular schedule. 2 Quizzes Each week during the Monday recitation, you will have a quiz over the previous week’s material. Your two lowest quiz grades will be dropped. To be successful, it is important that you stay caught up with the suggested homework: http://www.math.tamu.edu/courses/math151/currenthw.html Common Exams Engineering Calculus I uses common exams in order to establish consistency among sections. These common exams are administered in the evening. Please see the tentative schedule on p. 2. Final Exam The final exam is cumulative and is not a common exam. The schedule of all final exams is available on the TAMU website. Please see the tentative schedule on p. 2 for our final exam schedule. Matlab Assignments Each week, starting week 2 and excluding exam weeks, you will have a Matlab assignment due. These assignments are always due at the beginning of lab. If you are late to lab, there is a 5% deduction. This deduction will increase by 10% for each day the assignment is late. You will complete each lab as part of a team and turn in one lab report per team. Visit the following link for the assignments and schedule: http://www.math.tamu.edu/courses/math151/matlabsched.html Online Homework Online homework is in WebAssign and is required in all math 151 classes. You will have one or more sections of homework due each week. Your two lowest homework grades will be dropped. Everything you need to know can be found here: http://www.math.tamu.edu/courses/eHomework/ Extra Help & Preparing for Exams Me I am here to help you but I can’t help if I don’t know there is a problem. I encourage each of you to talk to me, ask questions both in and out of class, come to office hours, send emails, etc. Your best bet for success is active participation! Your Classmates We will all learn more and have more fun if we talk to each other. Get to know your classmates. Form study groups and help each other. Week in Review The Week-in-Review is a review session conducted by Mr. Ben Aurispa for all Math 151 students once per week to review the topics of the previous week and to provide additional examples. Time, location, and notes will be posted here: http://www.math.tamu.edu/~baurispa/math151/151wir10a.html Help Session Help sessions are an opportunity for you to ask questions and get help with your homework. Students who have previously taken Math 151 lead the help sessions. As soon as it is available, the schedule will be posted here: http://www.math.tamu.edu/teaching/helpsession/helpsessions.html 3 Practice I strongly recommend that you practice problems on your own from the book. Working only the problems from the online homework will not be enough. See the suggested homework list available online: http://www.math.tamu.edu/courses/math151/currenthw.html Videos Watch the Math 151 Videos at http://www.math.tamu.edu/~amy.austin/wirmath151.html Copyright All exams, printed handouts and/or assignments, and web-materials are protected by U.S. Copyright Laws. No multiple copies can be made without my written permission. No exams or assignments may be shared with anyone outside of the class. Disabilities The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal anti-discrimination statute that provides comprehensive civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, this legislation requires that all students with disabilities be guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable accommodation of their disabilities. If you believe you have a disability requiring an accommodation, please contact Disability Services, in Cain Hall, Room B118, or call 845-1637. For additional information visit http://disability.tamu.edu. If you require accommodation, please see me as soon as possible. I can’t do anything for you until we have your paperwork in order. Academic Integrity Statement "An Aggie does not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do." Upon accepting admission to Texas A&M University, a student immediately assumes a commitment to uphold the Honor Code, to accept responsibility for learning, and to follow the philosophy and rules of the Honor System. Students will be required to state their commitment on examinations, research papers, and other academic work. Ignorance of the rules does not exclude any member of the TAMU community from the requirements or the processes of the Honor System. The Honor Council Rules and Procedures are on the web at http://www.tamu.edu/aggiehonor I am a former member of the Honor Council. Cheating or any form of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. You are encouraged to study with your classmates, unless otherwise directed, but all work intended for a grade must clearly be your work as an individual. All exams and quizzes (whether in lecture, online, or take-home) are to be taken individually. A good rule-of-thumb if you are unsure whether your actions could be construed as academic dishonesty: If I were standing next to you, would you want me to see or hear what you are doing? If the answer is no, then it is probably something you shouldn’t do. This includes discussing a quiz or exam with someone who hasn’t taken it yet. If you have any questions about this issue, I will be happy to discuss it with you. 4 Your First Assignment Due Thursday Jan. 28 • The “Introduce Yourself” Note Card • Use the 4 ✕6 card I provide. o Yellow for sections 507-509 o Green for sections 510-512 • This assignment counts as a quiz grade. • On the front: o Attach a picture of yourself, about 2 in. by 2 in.
