Members Present: Abby DeVries, Alex Klomparens, Amelia DeVries, Ashley Blauwkamp, Brady Van Malsen, Kate Bauer, Krystal Hornecker, Rachel Lundstrom, Kyle Mireles, Sam Pederson, and Susan Cherup Members Absent: None A. Approval of Agenda A formal agenda was prepared by Amelia and Kyle and approved by the group. B. Approval of Minutes The meeting minutes from October 17th had been uploaded to the Tech Team website. C. Meeting Business • Last Call for Tech Team Presentation Summaries Any Tech Team member who has done a presentation on behalf of the Tech Team (e.g. leading a Chalk and Wire session, doing a technology presentation for a class, etc.) must submit a summary of the session, including what was covered, which Tech Team member(s) were present, what went well, what did not go well, and what would be changed for a future presentation. To complete the summary, members must fill out the Google Form in an email that was sent to all Tech Team members by Amelia. Members should contact Amelia if they need the form to be re-sent. Responses to the summary questions should be detailed, for critical reflections will help the team provide the best services possible to the education department in the future. These summaries must be sent to Amelia before Thanksgiving Break. Amelia will begin to compile the presentation summaries into a full Tech Team semester summary after break. • Education Class Representative Assignments Using the list of spring semester education classes that Kyle had prepared, each member signed up for education classes s/he will be taking and courses that meet during open times in his/her schedule. Kyle and Amelia will be student teaching next semester, so they will not be able to fill in the gaps as usual; they asked all Tech Team members to sign up for as many classes as they can represent to make up for this. All members should have finished signing up by the end of the meeting, although the Google Doc will still remain accessible and editable. Come next semester, all Tech Team members will need to notify the professors they will represent via email, following the script that Amelia has previously emailed. Considering that most professors are busy with the upcoming end of the semester, Amelia advised NOT to send the introductory email until the beginning of next spring semester. • Chalk and Wire Info Sessions Next semester the Tech Team will again be hosting a series of Chalk and Wire informational sessions for the new education students taking Educational Psychology. The sessions will take place on January 22, 23, 24, and 28 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. each session. Tech Team members need to arrive at 6:45 p.m. to prepare for their session. Members signed up to assist at one or more of the Chalk and Wire sessions, as follows: Tuesday, January 22nd Wednesday, January 23rd Thursday, January 24th Monday, January 28th Amelia or Kyle leading; Ashley and Kate assisting Amelia or Kyle leading; Alex and Abby assisting Amelia or Kyle leading; Rachel and Krystal assisting Kate leading; Sam and Abby assisting • Technology Tid-Bits Newsletter Kyle will be composing this semester’s Technology Tid-Bits within the next week or two. If anyone has an idea they would like to see included in the newsletter, talk with Kyle within the next week. The newsletter will be handed out at the upcoming education department technology session on November 27th. Kyle mentioned that he will be taking an “intern” next semester so that s/he can then take over composing the Technology TidBits after he graduates in the spring. • Faculty Technology Information Session As decided at the October 17th meeting, the Tech Team will be hosting a technology informational session for education department faculty, in which the latter will be able to learn about a variety of technologies offered by the Tech Team. The originally set date, Tuesday, October 30th, had to be re-scheduled due to departmental conflicts. The session will now take place on Tuesday, November 27th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in VanZoeren room 247. Each member has been assigned to a specific technology, as follows: SMART Board: Edmodo and possibly Canvas: Livescribe Smart Pens: iPad: Evernote: Document Camera: Online Technologies: Ashley and Krystal Brady Alex and Rachel Kate Sam Kyle and Amelia Kyle and Amelia Abby will not be able to make it to the session due to a predetermined work conflict. Each technology mini-sessions will last about 10 to 15 minutes. Professors will rotate through the sections; it is yet to be determined how structured this rotation will be. Krystal volunteered to compose a checklist of the mini-sessions that will be covered and by whom they will be presented. Amelia wanted her to send a rough draft of the checklist to her, Kyle, and Susan by November 20th. The general focus of this technology session will be to show professors how they and their students can use the technologies we offer, so that more students will utilize the technology in their field placements and student teaching. As Kyle noted, we want to “facilitate the professors to facilitate the students.” If a professor shows interest in your technology, offer to give him/her further training in it. • Livescribe Smart Pen Updates Livescribe, Inc. has released a new Livescribe Smart Pen – the “Sky Wi-Fi Smart Pen,” which allows you to send notes directly from the pen into an Evernote account. Each pen costs about $200.00. The team decided to purchase one pen and test it out to decide whether or not to pursue the purchase of an entire set of brand new pens. Amelia also mentioned that there are blank pages (those used in conjunction with the Livescribe Smart Pen) available for free print from the Livescribe website. She plans to print off some copies to confirm whether or not they work. She will report back to the team. • Mini-Session on Using Chalk and Wire on Macs Abby briefly taught the team how to resize pictures on Mac computers (see her for more details). She will be adding this to the online Chalk and Wire directions in the form of written instructions or possibly a Jing video. Kate noted that some students have also been struggling with uploading pictures to Chalk and Wire on a Mac as well. Abby suggested that they try uploading the pictures directly to their Artifact Library/Image Gallery first, instead of trying to add the picture through a specific page. A follow-up is to come. • Intro to Assessment Student Teaching Portfolio Presentation Professor Finn requested that Kate and Abby present to their Intro to Assessment class about the student teaching portfolio process. Kate and Abby plan to pursue this further. • Mac Book Pro for the Tech Team The team discussed the pros and cons of purchasing a Mac Book laptop for the Tech Team to serve as the “home” computer for the new Tech Team iPads. After much discussion, the team decided that purchasing a laptop for the entire education department, not just the Tech Team, would be a more plausible idea. A follow-up on this is to come. • Submitting Hours Some last pay period’s pay stubs were not processed, so members who have not been paid should add last period’s hours to this period’s. Members must submit their hours by 12:00 midnight after the meeting, for pay checks will be processed early due to the holiday. • MACUL Update Congratulations to Kyle and Amelia! Their MACUL proposal was accepted, so they will be presenting at MACUL in Detroit next March. If anyone is interested in attending the conference, they should talk with Susan. Hope will cover all registration and hotel costs. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 10:15 p.m. The next general meeting will be held at the beginning of spring semester. A date and time is yet to be determined. This concludes our meeting. Respectfully submitted, Ashley Blauwkamp, clerk
